Oh, you can count on it buddy. I will document the stairway construction and our fishing expeditions, for sure. By now, the water temp will have cooled down a bit and the fish will bite more.

Thanks for posting that pic buddy.
Well, I started out ordering my lumber from a local place on sat to be delivered on Monday at noon. The salesman assured me he had the numbers that I wanted in stock and everything was cool for the delivery.

I had been having a hard time tracking down the u-bolts that I needed to clamp the rebar stakes I was using to and through the stair stringers and had bought out the stock of the three different places that I had been.

So there I was, back in time to accept the delivery and I get this phone call. "I'm sorry mr Conrad but we won't have your lumber in stock or be able to make your delivery until Thursday or Friday" talk about teed off......

So I cancelled the order, borrowed the stepdad's truck and 16ft trailer and took the wife on an hour and a half trip to a Sutherlands in Sedailia and got the lumber myself. The wood was cheaper there, we got to choose pretty pieces, and found some more u- bolts and still saved money.

After we got unloaded, the wife wanted to go fishing so that day's production was shot.

Tues morning, we got started a bit late as it rained first thing.
I drew out my first stringer and I cut the first three while the wife stained all of the tread boards. Then, she helped me mark and cut the treads and stein the stringers and it was time to carry the parts for the first run down the hill. I carried the stringers down on my shoulder and we loaded all of the treads into the magnum and drove em down.

By this time, the wife had had about enough and was a tad pissy.

I placed the three stringers on a cradle assembly of rebar that I had built to hold everything to the right height and plumb, lined the tops up and secured em, framed the stringers out by attatching three sets of treads top, middle, and bottom. Next came the fun task of pounding in rebar stake and then drilling in holes for the u-bolts. The whole u- bolt installation seemed about the biggest pain of putting things together but they did clamp onto the rebar just as I had planned.

That took till about 7pm Monday night and we were pooped. First thing tues, we screwed on the rest of the treads to that first section and then went up the hill to start the process again. Yesterday went better as wegot just as much done in three hours less time. We had a dinner date and had to quit early otherwise that second section would have gotten done yesterday.
It is raining today but I did brave the elements long enough to almost finish that section. I have five more sets of treads and the bottom set of stakes to install.

I figured about 3 1/2 days on this deal but didn't consider the weather turning cruddy on us.

I wanted to build this stairway so that the folks and the wifey Gould get up and down the hill better but I think we will all enjoy it.

Well we got back from our 10 days at the lake cabin last night and just like always, going somewhere is fun but coming home again is always great. The stairwell job was a grand undertaking and took longer than I thought it would but it did keep us from sitting on our butts for 10 days and it turned out great so now we have something to be proud of.
Coming into this project, I had never designed or cut a stringer for stairs before and somehow managed to figure out the fall of the hillside and the correct angles and measurements to cut the stringers so that they worked perfectly all the way down the hill side to end up on an existing platform at the top of the existing stairs coming up from the dock.

The supporting of the thing by using rebar stakes worked just like I had imagined and the ubolts holding the stringers to height by clamping the rebar turned out to be the biggest pain to install. The wife absolutely hated to mess with them. She was a good co-worker and managed to put up with me through the whole project.

Well, that's 62 ft of stairs done. All that remains is to cobble together a little 3X4 landing at the top of the thing to meet with that little staircase at the top of the hill. We will do that when we return for the last time this year in two weeks.

There were some nice sunrises and some shots of the lake from the cabin that I took and I have thrown them in here as well.

Oh, by the way, I found out last night that, as I suspected, I am now temporarly layed off from work. it's a good thing that i had seen this coming and reactivated my unemployment last Friday. I had attempted to downplay the ebay sales for the week prior to my vacation so that I wouldnt be swamped with orders while I was away and of course, now have $200 worth of stuff to make or pack up that I had sold in the last week. Oh well, it will keep me busy and help pay the bills.
Thanks again, Tamer, for posting the pics that you did. I'm sorry that Photobucket was acting up on you.

And now, here are some shots from the lake.

Here is the only concept drawing I made of the whole project which was a scale drawing of the stringer design. Everything else regarding the design of the thing was in my head which didnt please the wifey as i introduced new steps to the stairway's construction that she didnt see coming.

the next two shots are of the lumber pile which we put on the cabin's patio to keep it out of the rain.

the third shot is of my first cut stringer sitting on some sawhorses that i cobbled together out of scrap rebar.
