Hi All,

Another update on the Thunderbird excavator dio.

The excavator is now complete and it felt like it was missing something so I added thin plastic rod on both side and also added hydraulic hoses to the back of the arms.

The base is high density foam and cut to shape and the cliff face I just ripped apart foam with my finger and then glued them in place.

I the glued the excavator in place and with the left over small pieces of foam I glued them to the dozer section of the excavator and glued them tight against the grinder so it looks like it is starting to smash the rocks up.

The mine shaft support beams are pieces of balsa wood cut and glued inplace and once this was done the cliff face, rocks and ground were covered with spakfilla.

I have started painting the cliff face and rocks using Vallejo Paints as was the excavator and then I will start weathering them with pastel chalks.

Wow, Ron, another fantastic build! I really like how you designed the rocks to look like the excavator was churning again. The hover bike is great and the gray smoke looks really good (sometimes smoke effects turn out just too white).

The final water diorama is exquisite as well. Brilliant job!

Thanks heaps mate and the smoke/soil effect was done my using cotton wool and applying pastel chalks to until the chalk covered all the white areas.

Hi All,

I'm on a bit of a Thunderbird run at the moment and decided to do another simple display.

This one is TB3 from the new Thunderbirds are go series, it is the toy from Vivid and I did a complete repaint and wash to it using Vallejo Paints.

The base is from AOSHIMA TB 1 Launch Bay 1/350 kit, as I wasn't going to need it I used it for this little project. The base was painted with Vallejo Paints, the smoke is cotton wool pulled apart and glued in place.
