The Gigoran
« on: December 23, 2009, 02:48:31 PM »
INFO: The Gigorans were sapient primates indigenous to Gigor. An empathic species, they could speak Basic but preferred their language of grunts.

Gigorans were an able-bodied species, valued as slaves in Mytaranor Sector; due to this, slavers captured them and sold them at good prices. The Mytaranor Slaving Council resorted to using bounty hunters to capture Gigorans if needed.

RACE: Gigoran
HEIGHT: 2.1 Meters Tall
SKIN: White to silver
DISTINCTION: Resembled Wookiees but with more fur round the head and neck
LANGUAGE: Gigor, Galactic Basic

HOMEWORLD:
Gigor was a cold, mountainous planet and the homeworld of the Gigoran species. The Gigorans evolved from group-oriented primates who lived in caves. As they developed intelligence, they took to living as hunter-gatherers while keeping their cavern homes. The species divided itself into home-clans made up of around 50 members who divided themselves into three to five family groups. There was no higher government than the home-clan on Gigor, each under the leadership of the most skillful hunter. The world was largely unsettled, and it had very little in the way of high-technology. The Gigorans themselves had access to few items higher than stone-age technology.

Galactic scouts first came to Gigor long before the height of the New Order, but scouts deemed it of little value and left it alone. These explorers never even noticed the shy Gigorans. After the rise of the Galactic Empire, a group of smugglers chose Gigor as the site for a secret base. They made contact with the Gigorans and realized that they had found a strong, docile species that would make ideal slaves. The outlaws soon earned a tidy income by selling Gigoran laborers to groups such as the Empire. The smugglers' operation failed to turn a profit due to mismanagement, but the damage had been done: Gigor was now on the galactic map as a source for slave labor. In fact, the Mytaranor Slaving Council paid a hefty sum to bounty hunters who managed to capture Gigorans despite the fact that Gigor was not within the Mytaranor sector.

BIOLOGY AND APPEARANCE:
Gigorans are huge bipeds who evolved on the mountainous world of Gigor. They are well muscled, with long, sinuous limbs ending in huge, paw-like padded hands and feet. They are covered in pale-colored fur. Due to their appearance, Gigorans are often confused with other, similar species, such as Wookiees. They are capable of learning and speaking Basic, but most speak their native tongue, a strange mixture of creaks, groans, grunts, whistles, and chirps which often sounds unintelligible even to translator droids.

Despite their fearsome appearance, most Gigorans are peaceful and friendly. When pressed into a dangerous situation, however, they become savage adversaries. Individuals are extremely loyal and affectionate toward family and friends, and have been known to sacrifice themselves for the safety of their loved ones.

CULTURE AND HISTORY:
They are also curious beings, especially with respect to items of high technology. These "shiny baubles" are often taken by naive Gigorans, ignorant of the laws of the galaxy forbidding such acts.

The planet Gigor was known in the galaxy long before the Gigorans were found. The frigid world was considered unimportant when first discovered, except possibly for colonization purposes, so early scouts, eager to find bigger and better worlds, never noticed the evasive Gigorans while exploring the planet.

The species was finally discovered when a group of smugglers began building a base on the world. The enterprising smugglers soon began making a profit selling the Gigorans to interested parties, including the Empire, for heavy labor. The business venture went bankrupt because of poor planning, but slavers still travel to Gigor to kidnap members of this strong and peaceful species.
