The Lurmen
« on: January 14, 2010, 03:50:43 PM »
INFO: Lurmen (also known as Mygeetans) were a diminutive, pacifistic lemuroid species. They were native to the crystalline world of Mygeeto and also had a settlement on Maridun.

RACE: Lurmen
HEIGHT: 1 Meter Tall
SKIN (FUR): Brown to gray
DISTINCTION: Lemuroid
LANGUAGE: Galactic Basic

HOMEWORLD:

Mygeeto was a wealthy InterGalactic Banking Clan colony between Ord Biniir and Morishim under control of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. For further info on this planet please see post below.

Maridun was the grassy and forested homeworld of the Amanin species. Maridun went unnoticed for many years, and so was considered a haven by those who knew of of its existence. The planet would serve as a haven for the Lurmen who sought to escape the Clone Wars, and was home to a battle when Confederate General Lok Durd arrived on the planet to test an experimental weapon.

The planet was officially discovered by the Galactic Empire around 11 BBY after the Amanin made contact with them. The Empire created several mining colonies on the planet. When the Empire had reduced its presence following the Battle of Maridun, the Hutt Empire moved in and enslaved much of the planet. For further info on this planet please see post below.

BIOLOGY AND APPEARANCE:
The Lurmen were a lemuroid mammalian species, far smaller than a human. Their bodies were covered entirely in fur, though they did wear clothing, which ranged in color from a dark brown to a white-gray. The Lurmen had heads protruding perpendicular from their chest, with two large golden orange eyes, a nose and a mouth. Each Lurmen had a tail, and they communicated through speech, able to speak Basic.

They stood on two leg and had two arms, with five digits on each hand and foot. They could walk either upright on their two legs or could also use their arms and legs for faster movement. Certain Lurmen had the ability to roll themselves into a wheeled shape which allowed them to cover distances at great speed. They may have learned this ability from the native Amani on Maridun, on which a settlement of Lurmen was established. Wag Too was one Lurmen who possessed this rolling talent.

CULTURE AND HISTORY:
The Lurmen found on the planet Mygeeto lived in groups within the natural crystalline towers that covered the surface of the planet. Despite their prosperity, the Lurmen of Mygeeto were enslaved by the Muun of the InterGalactic Banking Clan, a faction of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, when it took over Mygeeto. Mygeeto then became a planet within the Confederacy, before it came under attack from the forces of the Galactic Republic.

During the Clone Wars, a group of Lurmen escaped war in known space and colonized the planet Maridun, a world that was uncharted at the time. After being attacked by the native Amanin, they were forced to abandon their ship, which was their only way off the planet. The Lurmen's reason for this was that they would have to fight to get the ship back, the Lurmen cultural ethos being pacifist in nature.

Jedi Generals Aayla Secura and Anakin Skywalker, with Skywalker's padawan Ahsoka Tano, arrived on Maridun after their ship was shot down by Separatist forces. Several clone troopers were also with them. With Skywalker badly injured, and the group having come under attack by numerous mastiff phalones, Secura, Tano and several clones arrived in the Lurmen camp. Requesting aid and healing for Skywalker, the Lurmen leader Tee Watt Kaa refused to have anything to do with the Clone Wars, or violence in general.

Watt Kaa demanded that the Jedi leave before they brought violence to his village and people. Tano, desperate for Anakin to survive, pleaded with Watt Kaa to help Skywalker. Relenting, Watt Kaa sent his son, Wag Too, to heal Skywalker. As a gesture of faith, Watt Kaa demanded that a Jedi stay behind, to prove also that Wag Too would not be kidnapped. Agreeing, Secura stayed behind. Wag Too also made clear that no clones and their blasters would be tolerated. As they returned to the camp, they found the camp under attack by two mastiff phalones. Wag Too, staying true to the Lurmen pacifism ethos, tied the creature up and stopped Tano from killing it. Taking Skywalker to the Lurmen camp, Wag Too began his healing process on Skywalker.

Lok Durd, General of the Confederacy, eventually came to the planet with a number of troops and announced the occupation of Maridun. Hiding Skywalker and his allies, the Lurmen refused to fight or use any form of violence against the Separatists, despite the Separatists ransacking their village. Watt Kaa and his Lurmen were informed by Durd that such searches for Republic contraband may happen again in the future. Despite his father’s wishes to remain neutral, Wag Too assigns a Lurmen scout, Tub, to aid the Jedi in getting off world.

Despite having already searched the village, the Separatists returned soon after their initial visit. The Separatists, under Durd, intended to use the Lurmen's known pacifism as a means to test an experimental weapon. As well as Skywalker, Secura and two clones soldiers, Rex and Bly, Wag Too and Tub witnessed the weapon’s test firing. Skywalker recognized that the next target for the Separatists would be the Lurmen. Tub, having seen this and the Separatists returning to the village, sent word to Wag Too. Tee Watt Kaa, when he heard of this, stated that there was no reason to believe that the Separatists would attack them, to his son’s frustration.

The Republic forces on the planet, having stolen a Separatist shuttle, arrive at the village and inform Tee Watt Kaa that the Separatists are planning to destroy them. Watt Kaa, however, refuses to use violence to fight them off, instead stating that he and the Lurmen would rather die than resort to violence. Despite Watt Kaa refusing to allow the Lurmen to fight, the Republic built defenses out of seed pods around the outside of the Lurmen village. Despite Watt Kaa’s stance, many of the Lurmen, including Wag Too, wanted to fight. After the Separatists fired their weapon, Skywalker and the Jedi raised a shield around the village, preventing the weapon from causing damage. Durd, having seen this, orders the battle droids of the Confederacy to attack. The Lurmen, still remaining without violence, watch as the Republic defends their village.

As droids fight past Skywalker and his allies, however, the Lurmen became vulnerable to attack. Wag Too, gathering those who did not believe in Watt Kaa’s absolute pacifism, attacked the droids and tied them up for the Republic to destroy. The droids, having been defeated, left the village. Despite his ideals conflicting with those of his son’s, Watt Kaa thanked the Jedi. Wag Too and the rest of the Lurmen did the same.

The Lurmen used fallen seedpods from the giant trees as shelter and home. Living near the trees proved too dangerous, as the falling pods could be deadly. Instead, the Lurmen dragged the pods into a clearing and used them as huts. They also extracted essential oils from the pods for nutrition and healing medicines.

Most Lurmen were pacifistic by nature and refused to fight or run even in the face of death. They often would hide instead of using violence. As pacifists, they carried no weapons but carried farming tools or ropes. When some Lurmen fought the Separatists, they refrained from ever destroying or killing the enemy. Their farming tools were used mostly as a leverage tool in these tactics and to provide something to tie the rope to, though sometimes they were used as a weapon for striking an enemy.

The greatest native threat to the Lurmen on Maridun were the Amani and the mastiff phalones, raptor-headed quadrupeds that hunted in groups. However, even in defeating these beasts the Lurmen attempted to remain true to their pacifist ideals, and not inflict any injury to the creatures. Instead, when cornered by a mastiff phalone, an agile Lurmen would try to unbalance the creature by tying a rope around its stout legs. For speedy movement, Lurmen could curl into a wheel-shape and roll along the ground.

The Lurmen on Mygeeto had the intelligent ability to be able to make profit and be prosperous, until the time of the invasion and occupation by the Banking Clan and, later, the Separatists.

MYGEETO
« Reply #1 on: January 14, 2010, 04:04:47 PM »

Since Mygeeto was locked in an ice age, giant crystallized glaciation and ice covered its surface, as well as huge crystal spurs. Because of this, Mygeeto means "gem" in the ancient trade language of the Muuns.[2] Mygeeto's internal fires long since cooled and had left a huge deposit of precious stones within its crust and mantle. The immense assets of nova crystals and fields of lasing crystals made Mygeeto one of the wealthiest worlds in the galaxy. It also hosted artesian crystals and relacite. The planet's ice shelves were also home to huge deadly worms. Also, the planet itself was enveloped by an asteroid field.[4]

Mygeeto was not composed of a uniform terrain; instead it was composed of many different kinds of terrain. There was no reported volcanic activity on the planet, meaning that the planet's interior was stable. The immense amount of precious metals found in the crust supports the theory that Mygeeto's volcanic activities had been dormant for some time.

Few cities existed on Mygeeto's sunken surface. These cities drew power from synthesized crystals which were constructed in large capacitor towers that stored and distributed the valuable energy drawn from the crystal. These cities were used mainly for administering the surrounding crystal mines, though they also contained vaults which were used by the InterGalactic Banking Clan.

Nearly all of the planet's surface was covered in thick ice, and the polar climate caused massive snow storms that battered the frigid surface almost continuously. Before the giant ice age, Mygeeto had climate ranging form polar to temperate - 30% of Mygeeto was covered in polar ice caps and 70 was either tundra or temperate. Temperature varied between -47 degrees in polar areas to 17 degrees in equatorial areas.

Every 200 years or so Mygeeto would go through a snow shift meaning snowfall would be persistent and low pressure would dominate the northern hemisphere. This would also mean Mygeeto's mean temperature would dip significantly affecting the whole planet.

HISTORY:
The indigenous lemur-like sentient Lurmens were indigenous to Mygeeto in times long forgotten during the Pre-Republic era. Around 30,000 BBY, an alien species known as the Rakata annexed Mygeeto as part of their Infinite Empire. With the break-up of their empire after five thousand years of galactic dominance, the Rakata abandoned Mygeeto and retreated to their homeworld of Lehon, leaving no clues for later settlers as to how or why they died out. By 6,740 BBY, the planet was rediscovered by smugglers, and later Hutts and then Neimoidians took control of the planet. When the Muun controlled InterGalactic Banking Clan, they discovered Mygeeto and the native Lurmens were reduced to a status little better than slaves.

Due to easily mined formations of naturally-occurring, high-quality crystals and jagged rocks present on the planet, the InterGalactic Banking Clan guarded Mygeeto with a fleet of warships including the Munificent-class star frigates. As a result, access by rivals to the planet was difficult. Even if intruders had bypassed the blockade, they were faced with the harsh, frozen surface of the planet itself.

The Jedi had always wanted to explore the planet because of the large supply of natural crystals suitable for lightsaber construction, but the Banking Clan would not allow it.

The Banking Clan also constructed several cities on Mygeeto. These cities were used for administering the surrounding crystal mines, though they also contained vaults which were used by the Banking Clan to store its treasures.

CLONE WARS:
During the Clone Wars, Mygeeto became a valuable member of the Confederacy of Independent Systems and was as a result named by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine as part of a "triad of evil", alongside Felucia and Saleucami.

Later, General Ki-Adi-Mundi led the Republic assault on the world along with Commander Bacara and the elite Galactic Marines. The planet would be the site of many horrific battles during the Clone Wars. By the conclusion of the battle, the vast cityscape lay in burning, ash-filled ruins. The hot ashes mixed with Mygeeto's ice crystals to cover the battlegrounds in sleet and snow. Many Republic vehicles, including UT-ATs, were blown apart by Confederate tri-droids. Later, Ki-Adi-Mundi's forces were reinforced by troopers from the 501st Legion sent by Palpatine himself.

Officially, the 501st Legion had been sent to destroy a droid energy collector, but in reality they were searching for an experimental power source that Palpatine required for a top-secret tributary laser-stream project code-named Hammertong. Clone Troopers destroyed two turbo laser turrets so that Ki-Adi-Mundi could land. After landing, Ki-Adi-Mundi headed for a Separatist tower, in which he was forced to fight three droidekas. Ki-Adi-Mundi managed to destroy the droids and detonate the tower, securing the power source that Palpatine had been looking for. Finally, he sent the power source off the planet, and aided the Clone Troops in the main battle. Towards the end of the battle, Commander Bacara received Order 66 and killed Ki-Adi-Mundi mercilessly.

THE GALACTIC CIVIL WAR AND AFTER:
During the Galactic Civil War, Mygeeto fell into the hands of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Darth Vader led a contingent of TIE/ln starfighters to the planet to put down the uprising.

By 25 ABY, however, Mygeeto lay within the New Republic's boundaries. It was subsequently attacked by the Yuuzhan Vong during their war with the Republic.

When the Second Galactic Civil War broke out in 40 ABY, Mygeeto had not only been reclaimed by the Imperial Remnant but had become a financial center of that entity.

MARIDUN
« Reply #2 on: January 14, 2010, 04:08:16 PM »

A group of Lurmen under Tee Watt Kaa settled on the planet during the Clone Wars to escape the destruction of the war. A strongly pacifist society, Kaa had a strong belief in nonviolence and neutrality in the war. Nevertheless, the war would be brought to them when a Galactic Republic cruiser carrying Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Aayla Secura and a squad of clone troopers crash-landed on the planet after a hyperdrive malfunction.

At the same time, a separatist force led by General Lok Durd landed on the planet claiming to be at their aid. Maridun was, in fact, a prime location to test fire the Defoliator weapon the Confederacy had just constructed.

Kaa nearly accepted the Lurmen "destiny" to be destroyed by this weapon, but the Jedi went against his orders to leave the planet and set up a shield defense around the village and disable the Defoliator, capturing Durd.

GALACTIC EMPIRE:
The Galactic Empire began mining operations around 11 BBY. Shortly after the Battle of Yavin, those colonies fell under attack by local Amani tribes, resulting in heavy casualties. Janek Sunber, who had taken over the Imperial forces following the death of Ziering, would soon discover the Amani concept of takital- and that they were an intelligent species capable of negotiating.

Following the Battle of Maridun, the Imperials made a deal with an Amanin lorekeeper in which his tribe would help slave traders capture Amanin from other tribes as slaves.

This battle would later be something of a legend amongst Imperial infantry, the Imperial propaganda machine having made the battle into a heroic struggle for survival—and of course, a success—from the display of officer ineptitude it had in fact been.

After the Empire moved its attention towards other systems, smaller private interests, especially those associated with criminals like the Hutts, began to take control of the slave trade. After only a few years of Imperial and private slave trading, Amanin were spread through much of the galaxy. Some of these Amanin returned to Maridun with blasters and other advanced technology, taking control of local tribes.

FAUNA:
Wildlife native to Maridun included birds, herd animals, a dangerous predatory animals called charnoq, mastif phalones, carrier butterflies, fwits, and enormous lumbering corinathoths.
