So here are the tools and materials I used to build the diorama of Mos Eisley:

List of Materials:

- hobby knifes - saved my life
- ruler - for general measurements, it's actually always good to have two of them
- metal/aluminium ruler - perfect for cutting along with a hobby knife
- set square - regular and big size to measure and draw all angles needed
- pencils
- sandpaper
- calculator - to estimate size and scale (1 meter are 5,5 cm in 1/18 scale)
- styrofoam - cheap and good to work with
- spatula/depressor

- styrofoam glue
- wood glue
- filler/screed

- sand

- plywood / medium-density fiberboard = MDF plate

I used chipboard/plywood for the base plate. The plate measures 160x110x3 cm (~63x43x1.2 inches). The base plate (~$28), the wooden strips (~$12) and the two pillars (~$60) are from a building supplies store and cost about $100.

After all strips were fixed I painted the plate in mat black:

It was a rainy weekend - the best weather for some model building!!

With a stencil the STAR WARS emblem was applied with silver paint:

The two pillars and the base plate were expensive, but I can use them for many purposes. I'm also planning on doing different dioramas on this plate like Endor, Hoth, Geonosis or Felucia.

Hello guys,

To be honesrtI am very ashamed that you are so excited about  the three pictures of my Diorama which I only could upload and post with FialaFernbrugg's help.
But thank you all so much for your kind words!

I have to say that I am disapointed of myself because the project takes too many time that I haven't got as a student of the 10th grade at a German school...so I wanted to finish this diorama of Mos Eisley as perfect as possible, but I still have to work so hard for school of course.
The first impressions I got for this project were playing the Battlefront II game of Pandemic( and I also hope that there'll be a third part of this fantastic game!!)
So after making thousands of screenshots of the Mos Eisley map I started to create a first draft of the buildings I wanted to build for the plate.
After the first buildings were done I wanted to upload the first tutorial on how to make the palte-system I invented with a good friend of mine Fabian.
Fabian and I were working on this project of Mos Eisley and we wanted to build the whole map of BFII, first!! But when we had counted the buildings of the map we decided to focus on our favorite buildings.
You see this is a very long story and I recognized that I was only talking about finishing it, soon, but I hardly found time for continueing the project...by now Fabian lost the interest to finish his part of our intended two plates...and I think his buildings are awesome, too. What I was sad about is that the color of my buildings is not similar with the color of the first styropoor glue we used so the color of three of  my four buildings is a bit too light.

So I want to say to you my friends is that I am very happy to read your reactions and comments about my work after the uploading on YouTube has failed some time ago...then fortunately I joined the incredible ShipYards and could upload the first pics of it (be sure that the state of the project has changed again by now;))
So on this point I want to thank:

FialaFernbrugg

-for all the pacience and interest you showed and for your GREAT support for the final publishment on the internet
-for your great ideas and all the appeals to continue working (and I am always missing words when I see your absolutely unique customs)...but I had to convince myself to go on working on the project although I got confused with it somehow sometime....and I also had to buy some suitable figures and accessories for it.
So thank you so much! I am proud to know you!

Great job so far.  Can't wait to see how this turned out.  I was thinking about making a Tatooine, but decided an Endor would be easier.

You can be sure that you will see further photos an pictures describing the whole story of this large project. I will finsih this dioram in the next two or three weeks when I'll have Eastern holidays for two weeks.

I am glad to welcome Fiala here to modify my dio for the last steps and to visit the JediCon2010 for the first time with him...
It will take some further time, indeed, to downsize all the pictures I took of every single step of doing this work.
You can count on me. I will show you all of them in the near future! Stay tuned for  them and may the force be with you, ever!

Yours faithfully

Philipp

Fabian and I were really inspired by LucasArts/Pandemic's STAR WARS Battlefront II video game:

We actually planned on building the entire map of Mos Eisley in 1/18 scale!

I spent hours of playing this game and exploring every square-inch of this map:

Before I actually started building the diorama I made several drafts  and crafted a paper model of the four buildings:

Figures and vehicles were used as reference to make the buildings accurate and in scale:
