Vintage 2010 Wave 2
« on: May 28, 2010, 06:46:49 AM »
Looks like EE is breaking the news first

This includes:

1x Darth Sidious
1x Anakin Skywalker
1x Obi-Wan Kenobi
1x General Grievous with Cape
1x Magnaguard Droid
1x Sandtrooper
1x Clone Trooper (Episode III)
1x Commander Cody
1x Han Solo (Hoth Hangar)
1x Luke Skywalker (Bespin Fatigues)
1x Darth Vader
1x Boba Fett

You can pre-order them if you don't want to fight the store crowds. Looks like September is the release date.

Maybe you guys can help me figure out if I am going to get them all or just a few that are actual part of the original vintage movie line.

I was thinking the same thing. Lets hope I don't love the new vintage cards as no doubt hasbro hopes to appeal to all of our love of the old vintage lines to pass off repacks like most of these. Does anyone see any new sculpts?

this unfortunatley is  what i believe will kill the Vintage line ,the amount of repacks  and we are not talking figs from 3-4 lines back but repacked legacy for gods sake ! i think their reliance on the vintage cardback will fail as nostalgia will only take you so far,  also i fear a higher price than legacy (which would be a monumental bout of stupidity on hasbro's part)it would have made more sense to produce updated sculpts of the original Kenner line on the vintage cardbacks  (now that would be nostalgic) but this smacks of a fudge at best by a company running short of ideas and trying to cheapskate its way thru the next two years.i am from the U.K. and altho it pains me to say this ,hasbro burned retailers with the legacy fiasco and i dont think many of them will commit to the quantities that hasbro want .so i predict extremely patchy availability in the U.K.  and an early death of the vintage line ,i also cannot believe in the niavety of hasbro believing that and i quote "that only kids buy the Clone Wars Line" they sometimes use the mailaway mechanism to gauge collector interest so your would have thought that they had cottoned on with the popularity of the Nahdar Vebb mailaway that collectors also are collecting the clone wars line (some times purely because its all they can ever find!).

looks like repacks to me, dont get me wrong as i wouldn't mind getting a magna guard, cody, or boba fett but thats's it.  i'm really disappointed that new features like better poseability wasn't incorporated.  we all know they will try and price these higher than we are willing to pay, just like they screwed up with the G.I. Joe figures which are about $5 bucks at Target.  They have the rights to the microman toys, so its not like someone over there couldn't improve things.  if they wanted to just dish out figs for the cash, it would be wiser to quantify figures that are NOT peg warmers.

Fair enough, repacking crappy figures is a bad move, but I don't see a problem keeping popular figures on the pegs, regardless of when they were released prior. Personally, I am very excited about the Vintage line, I don't agree with any of the points Jay made. I do not see a higher price point other than the ones charged in specialist stores, due to the fact the figures are imported. This happens even now & no one complains. High street retailers that decide to carry this line will charge the £7.99 we have come to expect. Regardless of whether or not there are a couple of figures in a wave you may not like, someone else will. If you can't get excited about a new toy line because there are a couple of figures you don't like included in a wave & all you are going to throw at it is negativity, maybe you are best off settling for what you have in your collection currently, rather than allowing your expectations (should you have any) to be drowned when the line is revealed. I realize not everyone will agree with me, but I cannot stand to see non-stop negativity towards a new product... it takes the fun out of collecting. I firmly believe that the people who say "put a group of Star Wars fans on the creative team at Hasbro, as we know more than they do" need to stop talking crap (Take Yarna & Willrow Hood for example) Fans BEGGED for those 2 figures to be released, but when they were, they were met with nothing but negative responses, if you don't like what Hasbro put out on the table for YOU, then keep your mouths shut! Enjoy the line for what it is, and if it bothers you that much, buy the figures you want & leave the repacks to the kids & other collectors who never got the figures in the first place.

I'm grumpy? I'm the only one shining a smudge of positive light on a line that you lot are just taking a dump on...
If I was grumpy, I'd be saying the same thing you guys are... "too many repacks, I don't like this, I don't like that, this line will die a death" etc, etc

well about half of this (maybe more) are just...well repacks, i will still be getting (or will try and get) the Boba,Cody,Han,magnaguard and Luke. But that doesn't mean they aren't repacks (excluding Han, and Luke, and maybe the magnaguard I think they are new).

I'm not saying they're not repacks, I'm saying that people need to quit complaining that there are too many repacks because not everyone has them.

ah...I can agree with that. I dont have a Boba Fett (getting one off dax415)...wonder how the Bastila Shan fan choice fig will turn out consumer "feedback" wise (hopefully NOT anything like the Yarna & Willrow did)

As long as Bastila is shipped in the right quantities & not packed 9 to a case of 10 figures like Yarna & Willrow, I think she will sell just fine :)

Personally, I'm definitely picking up Han, Sandtrooper, and Grievous (if he's better than my current one), and I totally can't WAIT for Bespin Luke!! I can finally set up the Cloud City duel, and the meeting between him and Yoda, bwahaha. I really wish he (and that Hoth Leia that's also coming out) had been available before my ESB watch party back on the release day anniversary... Would have made my little ESB setup on my bookshelf totally more complete! Vader and Boba in this collection would have to be really new and awesome for me to pick them up, since I already have what I consider to be the definitive versions of them. Maybe if Boba's helmet is removable, is not Temuera Morrison, and comes with his pistol, haha. The Emperor might be cool, since all I have of him is a re-painted Darth Sidious (which actually has a nice sculpt, but terrible articulation), though I've always liked the neutral faces on him better than angry lightning-throwing. Oh, and for the record, I bought both Yarna and Willrow, and think they're totally awesome hilarious characters that more people should buy!

Just because you don't have them...does that mean that those of us who have been collecting for years have no reason to complain about repacks? I will solve this right now...Hasbro confirmed in todays Q&A that most of the figures are indeed Repacks. http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/content/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=6328
So.....Complain! Complain! Complain! The reason why I complain is that I feel like using "Vintage" cards and just repacking figures is just a way to get people to keep buying figures since the B.A.D. figures are ending. There is alot of figures I want coming out in the Vintage line, and reading that Q&A session this week and actually hearing Hasbro admit that they are repacks made me feel a little better. I thought they were trying to pull a fast one by trying to pass these all off as new. I will just take this year catching up with the B.A.D. waves I missed out on.

There's still a Yarna at the Wal-Mart by my house with the "1st day of Release" sticker on it. She's an awesome figure. I was glad to see her get made and I bought her the 1st day of release just cuz Jabba thought she reminded him of his mother.
