Ok, I apologize for going so slow but I think we can pick up some speed now.
I got the vizsla head socket resized for the neck nub by simply filling it with resin and re drilling it. That was the last thing holding me back from starting some paintwork.
Normally on a project like this, the facial painting would intemidate the builder so I decided to get that task out of the way first. That way, once the head was done, I could fly through the painting of the body.
I have started using Vallejo acrylic paint which my hobby lobby is carrying now and I really like it although it wants to wear off fairly easily and needs to be sealed with an acrylic varnish to make it more stout. I started off giving the head a primer coat of white paying attention to the whites of he eyes.
After that, i dotted some blue in there for her corneas and then using some dark german grey, painted some lines over the corneas for her eye lid detail, darkened her mouth and her nostrals, and framed where her face meets her hair.
Her hair will be a lighter color but I figured that when I painted the hair and the flesh that if I could leave a thin line of that dark color that it would add more depth.
Next, i cut in some flesh color, used a medium brown for her eyebrows, and then mixed the brown darker to kind of wash the deeper parts of her hair and the parts of it that would fall into shadow. I also used that color to lightly add some depth to her face wrinkles at the corners of the mouth, nose, and above her chin which I will fade in with more flesh color.
Next, I cut in some more flesh to clean it up some. I'm not sure if I like the flesh color or not. In person, it looks more orange. I may have to mix in some white and red to the flesh and touch it up a bit. I can tell from these shots that I need to dig around and find my real camera as the phone is starting to reach its limit as far as how close it can focus. This actually looks better in person.
Ehh, its not perfect and could be refined more but I got it mostly done and that was the important part.
I'm always amazed by how much of a figure's expression is cast by the eyes. She has this "I'm gonna kick your butt" look on her face now.
I think that when I get her hair done, the head will look alright. Naturally curious about one of my favorite resin pieces now, was curious how the chest piece would look on this second hand shop 25th Scarlett figure and low and behold, I Started on a little friend for our first female mando. the scarlett doesnt have quite the articulation as the baroness so we might have to figure something out for those knee plates but when she is done, perhaps she and Mrs Vizsla can go and clear out a bar full of hoodlums somewhere.
