Bel Terrick - In Progress
« on: August 13, 2010, 08:45:03 AM »
Hi everyone, it's Smeagol92055!  In case you didn't see yesterday, I'm working on my first ever custom, an OC Corellian Jedi named Bel Terrick.
Here's the original Photoshop mockup I made of him yesterday:

I spent several hours last night and this morning working on him.  First, I popped off those abominable legs that came with the Obi-Wan figure and swapped them out with the Target Exclusive Kitt Fisto legs and hips.
Next, I took the Saga Legends Bespin Han Solo, beheaded him, and took a drill and dremel to his head, hollowing it out so it could fit on Obi-Wan's neck balljoint.
Once that was done, I took a paint marker and carefully drew in the facial hair, giving him the muttonchops, soul patch, bushy eyebrows and darkening the hair to further change his appearance.
Finally, I removed the hip holsters from one of my clones (I don't remember the name, but the face is familiar,) and glued 'em on the new legs, just below the cut of the sash.

Version 2 is shaping up nicely!  Now I have to repaint the body and go and acquire some yellow lightsabers!
Found the camera, so you actually get a picture with details in it this time.

Thanks!  Now that I've got the pieces together, I'm considering giving him some gray in his hair.  With the facial hair, he looks considerably older than he did.
Can't wait to work on him some more!

Here's a few more pics of Bel.
I modified the holsters on his legs to remove the parts that had connected to the clone trooper's belt; now it's just pouches coming directly from the side of his pants.  When I repaint him, I'll match the pouches to his pants.
Also, I added a jacket from an Indiana Jones figure; as I'm working more and more on him,  I'm beginning to develop his personality in my mind's eye.  I see Bel as an older Jedi, ready for retirement, when the Clone Wars broke out.  Now, he has to lead Null Squad, as his tactical expertise makes him an asset to the Republic.
The jacket is just a way to add to that; he's older, he's tired, he's constantly uncomfortable in the environments he's being sent to.  He gets chills easily.

In these pics, I'm showing also a new backpack for him.  He's got to carry just as much as his troopers do.

I'm also showing a set of vibrorangs he's picked up from one of the many worlds he's visited.  They're vibroblades, basically boomerang versions of the weapon.  While he fights with two lightsabers when the occasion calls for it, he prefers stealth over open combat, and the vibrorangs are a heck of a lot stealthier.

I have altered the action figure. Pray I don't alter it further.

First, let me say welcome to the Yards. Very creative stuff with the vibrorangs. I love stuff like that. The figure looks great.
Thanks for posting  and I can't wait to see  more from you.

Thanks for the welcome!
The next step is repainting him.  I acquired an entire set of Krylon paints this morning (completely by chance and completely free) but I don't want to use them on him.  I've been reading a few of the advice and tutorial threads here and I haven't seen too many endorsements of Krylon.

Fabulous Smeagol, your commentary on how you are creating him really adds interest, he is incredibly detailed with a great mix of parts. I especially like the 70's sideburns, they are a really nice touch. This is one of the coolest Jedi I've seen for some time. If this is your first SW custom, I'm seriously impressed.

Regarding your first image, do I smell a Web-Comic on the way???

Welcome to the Yards!
