Jedi Tanok Gith
« Reply #315 on: February 27, 2011, 04:35:37 AM »
Tanok Gith was a Jedi of the old republic from 985 BBY to 873 BBY. He lived his later years during a time when a great deal of legalism was present in those on the Council. After centuries of wars that seem to divide the republic and the Jedi the council thought it was time to crack down on the ways of the order to prevent more division and fighting. Many thought the council was being too dictatorial and leading the Jedi down the path away from the will of the force. The council assured those in the Jedi order that this was the will of the force and began their push to cleanse the order of dissent. At first it was little changes that seemed insignificant. However, they then became more aggressive. Those Jedi who didn’t abide by these mandates from the council were often frowned up and their actions were closely scrutinized. One such mandate that really stirred up argument was regarding that of a Jedi’s lightsaber. Certain crystal colors were accepted, but anything too close to Sith color met with disapproval. Gith’s lightsaber was extremely special to him. The focusing crystal he used was a gift from a very old man he had saved from being beat to death on the streets of Coruscant. Even though the young Jedi told the man there was no need for gifts, the old man insisted. After studying the crystal carefully he placed it in his lightsaber. The blade was a blood red. Tanok Gith refused to remove the crystal when criticized. He felt the color reminded him of why the Jedi were a part of the universe to help those in need. Although this decisions created difficulty throughout his life, Gith carried the blade until he died at the age of 112.

Mungo, great execution--esp. the use of the soft goods under his robes.  I haven't had any time to work on the Loki I picked up, but you've offered up some great ideas here.   (Your daughter did a nice job on those parts selections for her custom fig!  Nicely done!)  Great backstory too; love the touch about why his saber's red...

Light side, dark side...meh.  Just give me a lightsaber and a blaster and I'll take care of it!

Mungo, your daughter's jedi looks awesome! A very inspired use of parts and she really has a good eye for this. Great to see stuff like this.

Now your new Jedi, please do tell. I see new fodder that I have never seen before. Is it from the new Thor movie coming out? He looks great and I really love those parts.

Your Padawan did well, Master Baobab!  (and I'm glad to now know the story behind your name ;) )  What figure is that torso from?

If that is one of the new Thor figures, I foresee a great expansion in the customs-force!  Good-looking Jedi, there.  Definitely a new look.

OK...the new Jedi Tanok Gith is the Loki from the new THOR toy line. I basically added the soft goods under the robe. Simply a small piece added to the front. The lightsaber is that of POTJ the Adi Gallia.  I added a piece of scrap of leather looking material around the waste for a belt. After that, I added some random pouches that I had cut off of other belts. It was then basically complete. I didn't do more because after further inspection, these figures look as if they may be extremely hard to disassemble without damaging them. Anyway, I liked the end result. Thanks for all the compliments.

I will have to figure out all the pieces for my daughters, but this is what I know:

Boussh Leia Head
Obi-Wan CW Legs
Fives Forearms
Vintage Obi Wan Hands
BODY - One of the pod racers I can't remember.
Lower Tunic - Obi-Wan comic pack
Red Belt - Storm Shadow Comic Pack
Yoda Lightsaber

Hope that helps.

Yeah, kudos from me, too!  That's a very intricate mix of parts to have pulled off, regardless of age.  Definitely one to be proud of.
