QLD FLOOD CRISIS!! (Queensland, Australia) 2011
« on: January 12, 2011, 06:14:22 PM »
in this past week Queensland (our Sunshine State) and about 1500km away from us have had major storms,
with flash floods beginning at Toowoomba which is unbelievable to begin with, the town ship is 700 meters above sea level all were unaware of what was to come
with 75% of Queensland under water, (thats the size of  Texas U.S.A!!) it has been working its way down to the Capital city of Brisbane and destroying almost 12,000 homes and business and over 40,000 through out the state
so far the death toll stands at 13 with 40+ still missing
in Ipswich the water level reached 20 meters high yesterday with shopping centers submerged and pretty much all of the CBD totally under water
i would like to extend my thoughts and prayers to all our brothers and sister up north and to stay safe in the awful time

and to Darth Aussie i hope all is safe for you and your Family, Chime in mate when you can i know power is out

some of the footage that i have seen are Whole Houses floating away, shipping container, cars
here are some images just to get a grasp of things that are happening..

this family was floating in the flash flood, Later only the women and child were found safe the husband is unfortunately still missing...

and here are is some you tube footage from the ABC News...

I have been in contact with Greg (Darth Aussie). The last I heard from him he was on some elevated ground as far as his house and place of work was concerned so I found that very heartening to hear.

We were supposed to talk via phone on Sunday, but an electric storm prevented that.

I am hopeful just power outages are all that is keeping him out of here as it does seem like such a devestating flood. I am also seeing that the pineapple crop is rotting on the ground because they can't get it by road to the processors. It is going to take years for folks to recover from this one.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected over there by this. Stay high and dry my Aussie friends.

thats great news Shawn thanks for that

we Victorians have had non stop rain for the past 6 days has also flooded some towns but not to the extent as the folks up in QLD

Tash, the kids and I had to go to her late Dads farm (its Tash's now) today and that was very scary with water rushing across the roads in about 10 different locations in a 2KM stretch our car pushing sideways in  3 spots
more rain expected for the next 2 or so days with 100mm+ coming down...

yes and no.... i remember as a kid having days on end of rain and we're stuck inside the house and classrooms, and then having what seems like 15 years of drought, so every one expects the weather that we had been having for all those years to be the norm...

on the other hand one side of Oz is in floods ond the other side are having devastating bush fires so yeah that all seems a bit weird...

Wow, that is crazy.  Us in the swamps *expect* crap like that, y'know - and Hurricane Katrina-style storms, too! - but when you *think* you are safe and get nailed by surprise, that makes things really rough.  All you 'Yarders down there take care of yourselves and let us know if we can do anything for ya.

some parts of South Australia are having flood problems,  not like what's is happening in Queensland. Most of the bad weather missed us. The weather this summer is very wet, like we are in the tropics.

Well I just got off the phone with Greg (Darth Aussie) and I am happy to report that all is well with him and his family. The flooding didn't get to his home or place of work even though it did cut off his town for awhile. It was good to catch up and hear how things were going. It seems like we are freezing our kiesters off over here and gettting ready for more snow while over there they are now getting even hotter temperatures.

By the way my Australian Friends. Happy Australia Day!
