Well, here's the latest shot at an R3 dome.

It's not nearly as "frosty" as the last product I used, but it is still rather ... underwhelming on thinner casts.

Plus, the cast still turns out fairly soft.  I think that's why the dome isn't seating down completely - the central pin on the inside of the dome is too soft to drive down into the socket of the BAD body.  Cutting it a bit shorter should fix that.

Overall, rather decent.  It took to the details with very little fiddling to prevent trapped air.  I would have liked more optical clarity, but you can't have everything, I guess.

Next up on the R2 dome work-list... I want to try casting it in metallics.  Dunno if that's even possible.

For a comparison, here's the last attempt I made at an R3 dome...

Glad you think so, Tamer!

I have a very ... interesting resin-casting experiment on my workbench right now. I picked up some "Aztec Gold" powdered pigments. The label indicated they were suitable for including in "any viscous ... medium such as paint, varnish, glue or paste" to get a metallic or pearlescent finish. I mixed some into the Part A of my Alumilite Amazing Casting Resin, just like I would any other colorant, and then added the Part B, stirred, and poured into my IG-88 head-mold. They are curing right now, but it seems to be turning out quite well...

Jacquard "Pearl Ex" Powdered Pigments - "Aztec Gold" is what I picked up and am trying.  They have several metallic colors and if this run works well, I'll be adding them to my repertoire as well.

Will-do.  He's in a mold box, awaiting a pour of HSIII this evening.  Second pour on a new cantina table mold will go at the same time.  Gonna be a mold-making evening!  I mean, since I've been test-casting colored glasses all morning...

I don't often bribe Imperial officers with dinner...

...but when I do, I use only Production Platform 3 glassware.

Green cantina glasses and control panels...

Colored iconic boxes (test run, looks successful)
You might notice the brown belt-pouch on the deck in front of the boxes.

Here's the powdered pigments experiment.  The lighter pair represent the first run, the darker pair make up the second effort.  Not quite the metallic look I was hoping for yet.

Those r2 domes turned out nice, doc. I was curious about that pigment but it was an experiment that needed to be tried.

I don't think we'll ever get a perfectly-clear dome.  I'm going to try pressure-casting this clear resin one of these days, just to see what that does.  But that's further down the list.

On a more positive note, I can cast pre-colored R2 domes!
