Speaking of contests, have you thought any more about your resin contest entry?

I worked on it yesterday, actually.  It is ALMOST ready for pics - prolly today.

They look great! Good work man.

Why go through life base fig, when you can customize?

Here's a door that I used in my diorama entry over in the 'Yards contest.  Set your printer for 72dpi and it'll kick the door out to fit a 2.5"x4.5" opening.

Here's Brendan's first-ever customs!  I call them the "Dirty Pair."  He did all the work other than drilling the hole in #1's back for the jetpack and spraypainting the awesome Clonehead-special Airborne Trooper helmet, also on on #1.

Nope - its a Folkart brush-on I got as a touchup color-match.  I got two different ones, I'll have to ask him exactly which one it was.  I spraypainted the Airborne helmet for him with the Krylon Ultra-Flat Black from their camouflage line.  Other than that, every paint app was by brush, by him.

Yeah, yeah - I can hear you guys already... "Pics or it didn't happen!" or "You wretched tease, how'm I supposed to sleep tonight?!?"  You saw the first run of the Boushh helmet.  A second one came out as nice as the first.  I repoured the visor and tried to get plenty of squeeze on to ease out air-bubbles.  I WILL WIN!!  Well, that second run turned out an ALMOST-PERFECT visor!!!  I made a third pour on it tonight but it was the last item I poured and the plastic was setting up FAST at that point, so I had bubbles at the back of each leg.  I'm tweaking it and I WILL WIN!!  Well, so my next set of molds finally cured, so I socked the plastic to them - a Starkiller female head, an R2-L3 BAD dome, and an R7 BAD dome.  Didn't do enough plastic to run the R5 dome, too.  Which was a good thing, in the end.  That mold is all but unmanageable with two domes poured.  I figure I'll revisit the domes in the future and do each as a separate mold.

TINY TINY air bubbles!!  Two little bitty ones in the chick's hair and air bubbles at the tips of the "eyes" on the droid domes.  They look FABULOUS!!  I'll take pics tomorrow sometime after church and have them up after lunch-ish.

My wife is trying to figure out how to build a pressure-casting rig so I can get rid of air-bubbles.   :o  That's lightyears ahead of a "That's nice, dear" that a lot of guys get when talking about their hobbies!

Anyhow, watch this space for a Sunday Afternoon Special!

a pressure casting rig? That would be pretty awsome! I also have had troubles with how user friendly a mold is with a couple of castes pieces alredy within.
Keep mind that you are trapping the tiny bubbles within the resin as you mix the two parts. There's not much that you can do about that. Have you tried any sort of vibration method when pouring, yet?

Here's the latest goodies!

I'm getting REALLY CLOSER on the visors, I think!  The fragmented pieces was the first pull - with masking tape still inside the mold.  Pull two was almost PERFECT!  Pull three had air bubbles at the back ends of both legs - it was the last item poured and the plastic started setting up hard during the pour.  And it STILL came out good!

The Starkiller head looks great!  Need to go get the body out of Workshop-2 for test-fit, but I'm confident. I sprayed the first Boushh helmet w/ Ultra-Flat khaki - the second is almost as nice.  The R2 and R7 heads are really nice, but are solid pieces.  That's fine for now.

So - there ya go.

Nicely done, Doc!! I thought that the Bosch helmet turned out real nice! I am going to have to pick up some of that white resin, for sure! Consider my lust for some of those visors firey, now.
