So, you may have noticed I've been a bit scarce of late. Well, I've been up to my eyeballs in a new project. Things are never dull around Outland Station and this is no exception. Seems one of the Station's commercial inhabitants has set up a production facility. For making armor. Mandalorian armor. Here's the scoop...
(taken from reports on the Mandalorian Mercs discussion forums...)
Well, ok, technically I bought supplies I'll need to begin production. I picked up two Sterilite 13g trash-cans in girl colors - a pink and a bright royal blue - and two pair of Peewee-sized Wilson shinguards. The beneficiaries are my two younger girls, 4yo and 9yo. Test-fitting reveals the shinguards look great on the 4yo and ridiculous on the 9yo. But they make decent gaunts for the 9yo. First problem solved. I'm thinking we'll start with the WOF extra-small Jango template and see what sort of scaling we need to do. If that will be a major screw-up, y'all have time to catch and correct me!! The girls wear size 6 and 12, respectively.
I expect to turn this into a school project for the kids, as we homeschool and are always looking for interesting projects. The 15-almost-16yo plans to eventually make a set of metal armor - but figures trashcans will make great practice material and allow him to work out how he wants his "final" set to look. ("Final set"!! hehe!! riiiiiiiiiight.....)
I'll take pics of the colored cans tomorrow when the sun is out.

Well, there's an evening's work well-done. I printed out a set of WOF's "Jango Small" templates and just finished cutting them out and assembling them. I did them on regular printer paper - I figure to glue them to the trashcan tonight with rubber cement after my youngest comes in and I can "Dead Mando" her (ie: make her lay down in the floor and then lay the paper templates on her to check for fit/alignment). We may actually manage to cut some pieces out tonight! If so, I figure to focus on the pieces above the waist for now.
I located two airsoft rifles that had already made the move and retreived them from storage. The ideas are already flowing as to what's and how's for turning them into Mando warrior weaponry from all quarters. My son looked at them and declared them to look and handle better than he remembered and he promptly demanded one for his kit. Grin

What good is an armor thread without pics, right? So here's today's work.
First, I printed and cut out all the templates.
So then I checked them for fit on the verd'ike.
Suits us! So, we rubber-cemented the template to the first trashcan.
Once all the pieces were done that I figured we really HAD to have, I started cutting them out with EMT shears. Boy, that hurt!! But now we have the first pile of beskar pieces to put on a vest...once Rebe makes the verd'ika a vest to put them on.
Here's the girl who gets the purple set, practicing her room-clearing...

So that's what I've been up to the past few days. Needless to say, a a blonde baby girl who can sling a G36 is a hit with the Mandos!
