While running errands today, I stopped into Toys R Us simply out of curiosity to see if any of this weekend's Toy Fair reveals were in out yet (some Schleich was seen) and found 4 brand new "Animal Planet" sets!
With Toys R Us being such a precarious position lately, I have a strong feeling that any new "Animal Planet" and "True Heroes" items will not be produced in the readily available numbers we have seen in the past so I snatched them up right away.
There are 2 new Dinosaur sets and 2 new Deep Sea sets. The dinosaur sets feature brand new (to the US anyway) dinosaurs as well as a brand new playset and vehicle. The small red helicopter is a reissue of one that has seen release both in the TRU exclusive lines as well as showing up in a Walmart "Kid Connection" set last year. The figures and accessories are reissues of items that are always used in these sets. The Ceratopsian dinosaur is the same as the one I found in England last spring which is great as I wanted more of them besides the 1 I found. The Carnataurus is a great little dinosaur, not as nice as the "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" one coming this summer, but still a nice additoon to the herd. The smaller hatchlings are completely new as far as I know.
The 2 new Deep Sea sets feature new sea creatures while reissuing older vehicles (in new colors at least), figures and accessories from previous sets. The Goblin Shark, which may actually be the first action figure style release of this species, is awesome despite the chomping jaw mechanism not having the same "Alien"-esque action of the real animal. The Dunkleosteus is a real surprise as it is not a prehistoric animal that gets a lot of toy love with only Safari Ltd. and Schleich having released affordable mass market models.
Look for full reviews shortly.
