wow Spud this is one very cool looking mando mate, i wish i had not said anything now you always out do yourself... i would love to see all the fodder you have in one big photo just to show us how many figures you have dismantled to create all these awesome mandos...

lol  I know you were just kidding, but it does seem like this is all I do, I know simon gives me a hard time about it too!

I'll spread out my fodder bin tomorrow and get a good shot of it all... I actually have about 3 boxes of fodder.  I have it organized into 3 main groups:
full complete figures
dismantled figure parts
accessories

I realy need a system to further organize it though... my bins are getting so deep that I can't ever find what I need.

btw, you guys should get uber excited, my next 2 customs will not be mandos.... lol

well, I havn't realy started on my next custom, but I've added a few things to my stealth mando.  In my original concept he had a shoulder pauldron and a skull necklace.
Originally I wanted the figure to be just a different set of armor that boba or jango would use for stealth missions, but I think the way it's turned out that the figure is more like an entirely different character...  someone with more imagination than me should come up with a name and story behind it!

anyway, here is what I've added:

I love your additions, buddy. Where did the skull necklace come from?

well... for the first of my "next two customs won't be mandos" project....   :P

I've done an upgraded commando droid figure.

I felt that the elbows needed some work as well as the hips.  The elbows are a relatively easy fix, if you happen to have an extra set of clone wars clone hands.  take the peg/swivel joint out of the CW figure's hands.  take and pop the peg out of the droid's elbow and cut away the circular piece of the elbow that is attached to the upper arm.  then drill a hole into the upper arm for the cw trooper's hand peg.  Then you just need to push the peg from the elbow back through both rings to hold the joint back together.
I didn't paint the new joint so I hope it is visible enough in the pictures so you can see what I'm talking about.

the next thing I did was rebuild the hip balls.  The ball joints were too restricting.  I found that the sockets on the legs were an exact match to some plastic pin heads that I use in my customs alot.  So I trimed off the old ball joints and put on the new pin head ball joints slightly wider than the old ones.  You can see that the pin head balls let the legs swivel more and almost allow the figure to do the splits...  so there is much more movement achieved from doing this.

here are the pics:

Well, What do you think?  An improvement?

You are truly the master of re-articulating these figures, Devin. Yes, it is a vast improvement, buddy. Well done!

what I'd realy like to redo is the entire midsection...   I wish there was a flexible material I could mold with.  I'd redo that entire lower half of the torso in a rubbery/bendable substance and put a metal wire through the center down to the hips so that the entire body could flex and move....
........................................................ :o..........................................................
epiphany....  if what I just thought of works... I might be able to do something just as good....

ok, for my next non mando custom I did a togruta smuggler.

Basically it's the legs of a paris persuit barroness on the body of Reactive armor scarlett with a modified shaak-ti head.  Nothing has been painted yet and it's all been simple swaps.  the belt is from the paris persuit barroness' trenchcoat, I cut off the tails of the coat since they were practically useless on a figure (impeded movement/poses).    The holster from the scarlet figure was glued to the side of the new fig's leg so that it doesn't impede movement and it stays on the leg when she sits or bends.

well... I realy want to repaint this one but I have no idea on a color scheme or what else to do to the fig.  She's supposed to be a smuggler/outlaw so I'd like her colors and paint to reflect that.  But I don't know how.... any suggestsions??????

Awesome! I love the commando droid, he is heaps more poseable like that. The smuggler is cool as well. As far as a paint scheme, I'd probably do the legs in a brown colour, and then the top in a combination of dark green and dark blue. Leaving the boots and gloves black. Perhaps a kind of plate by plate colour sequence on the body. Maybe a rust or muddy red instead of blue.
