started work on the basic figure of Mandalore the Indomitable tonight...

got most of the basic stuff done, built the majority of the figure from joe parts, basically the entire body except for the forearms and hands are joe pieces.  I realy don't know which ones exactly though, it's a mess....

I used gauze wrappings "painted" brown with permenant marker on the legs, then wrapped them with black string to imitate the original figure's leg's detailing.

I still have to make knee pads, shoulder pads, touch up the paint on the body, possibly make a foux lether tunic, as well as make a head....

I want my final figure to more closely resemble this:

and to do that I'll probably make him a removable cloak so that he can be both formal, and imformal....

well... what do you guys think so far?  Should I keep working on this or give up now...?  I'm not entirely happy with the way the legs look after looking at the pictures...

Well personally, I can't believe how you took a figure I tossed aside as "boring" and turned it into a super arty MASTERPIECE!!! GREAT JOB! ;D

lol... I'm not even half way done yet.   :P

so you guys don't think the legs look funky?  in the images I think they just look odd, perhaps it's the lack of the knee pad that is putting me off...

Ok... well I'm off to work on it again, going to try and finish the leg detailings tonight and start work on a custom sculpted head....

ok... I started sculpting the taung head...  This is the final image I decided to use as a basis:

and here is my sculpted head:

what I did was use an existing gi-joe head, trimed it down with an exacto knife so that it was only a vauguely human shaped head, Mainly I did this so that I would have the perfect ball socket beneath the sculpted part.

I then used apoxi sculpt, a two part self hardening clay like medium, to sculpt over the joe head.  I used an exacto knife to do that basic sculpting then used my finger dipped in water to smooth it out.

I will eventually paint this a light grey/green color to match the images.  the eyes will be gold in color and I'll add some splotches of red and black on the skin to add to the detailing...

here is an updating pic of what I've got done on the body.... basically all I've done on it tonight was give it some bigger feet as well as update the paint on the upper half of the body and upper arms to match the forearm's better:

Wow, didn't even know that guy existed. Looks good. I think the legs on the Mandalore look fine to me. Keep it going.

like the looks of your mandalore, spud. Now that sculpted head has an interesting start. Those are the steps you would take to move your customs to the next level and some thing I haven't tried yet.

Mandalore The Indomitable was the second "mandalorian" leader but the first to call himself "mandalore."

The figure is loosely based on hasbro's mandalore from the Fett evolution's pack.

The basic construction of the figure uses a mix of 25th/roc joes and parts from the evo-mandalore.

The legs have been wrapped in cloth and then bound with black string.  They are loose enough to allow full movement and posability, yet tight enough that they do not move or sag.

The head is an original sculpt, made of a joe head covered in apoxi sculpt.

The helmet is more of a mask.  The original's helmet was cut down to just the mask and then dremmeled so that it was as thin as it could be.  Stretch cord was added to hold it to the figure.  A cloth "hood" was added that is wrapped around the figure's head and bunched up in the front.  When the mask is placed over the "hood" it holds it together and forms the "helmet".  This cloth can then be folded back to reveal the head and the mask can be removed.

pics:

the first two pics are without the helmet/hood modifications and are meant to show the detail in the head sculpt.

The above two images show the "hood" folded down around the neck revealing the head.  Notice the added streach cord to the mask in his hand.

In these two pics the hood has been pulled over the head and the mask is put over it holding it in place.

well,  What do you guys think?
