  Just as a note, I will be participating in the Scale Model Addict online model contest. I have decided to go with the Fine Molds Slave-1 as my entry. I've never done well in any contests so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Hey guys,
  As always thanks for the compliments. I have made some significant progress already on the slave-1, but there is still plenty of work to be done on this one. I am entered into an online contest with this one, and already there are two other entries that are almost the same. One fellow is working on the Jango Fett version of the Slave-1 and another guy is working on the AMT version of the kit. My work is cut out for me if I'm going to try to win here.

This is a shot of the main body after I got the first base coats on. The top is a mix of Vallejo Green Pastel, Vallejo Silver and a Metal Medium that gives the paint an overall metallic sheen. The bottom engine shroud is a mix of Vallejo Natural Steel and a touch of Gunmetal Grey.


The following are pics of the shroud after it's second wave of color...I used a mix of Vallejo Red with the Metal Medium, followed by some streaks of Dark Red and Gunmetal Grey..Liquid mask and salt was applied to achieve the paint chipped effect.




Next up was the main hull, that got a generous coat of liquid mask and salt..Note: Be sure to clean up before your wife shows up and looks at the mess you left on the kitchen table. This color was a mix of Vallejo Pastel Green, Metal Medium and a drop or two of Gunmetal Blue.




The end result is still up for debate..I think the contrast ended up a little too high..So I may end up taking this down with a glaze of the Pastel Green to try to bring this all together a little more.





  So next up is to get this wired up and to get some LEDs installed.

Hey there, Guys

  I have a few more pics to share with you on the progress of the Slave-1. I've been in and out on this one between work and other duties as a new dad, but whenever I can I sit down to hammer out some more details on this. I have most of the body painted and I'm going to start some of the wiring tomorrow to get this lit up. But here's this weekend's progress so far.

1) What is the scale of this model? It looks abou the size of the old Kenner toy.

2) Is there a tutorial for this liquid mask/salt technique?

   The scale of the model is actually 1/72, as far as the size comparison to the Original Kenner toy, I think this is considerably smaller.
  And to answer your second question, I have been asked by a few other friends to do a tutorial. I should have one tutorial video available on my YouTube page before this weekend, and I will definitely post a link here on this thread.

  As always, I want to thank those of you who have stopped by to leave a cool comment. As promised I have a short tutorial available on my YouTube page for the salt and Liquid Mask technique. Some of you may remember that I once used my wife's Facial Peel Mask as a medium. This time around I'm actually using a liquid resin material by Vallejo Paint which is a water based medium used on scale models.

  Hope this helps, it is a very easy technique and it may require a couple of practice runs to get the hang of stippiling the brush.
