Greetings again fellow shipyarders,

  Hey Hemble,
It is always good to see you stop by and leave a cool comment. It's also good to have you back here at the Shipyards.

I got a little busy and when that happens it seriously cuts into my model time. I do have a couple of projects to show you guys. Smaller projects that have either been sitting on my bench for quite some time and needed to be finished.
The latest project I finally made some progress on is the Naboo Starfighter I started over a year ago. This is actually the third paint job it has gotten..the first being a simple re-paint of the original release...then after I realized how boring that was, I gave it a base coat of a metallic blue..then it sat on my bench for over a year while I procrastinated on setting up the cockpit lights. The good news is that they finally released an updated Ric Ollie..I always loved the WWII inspired pilot gear that they wore, and the added bonus was there was a generic naboo pilot that came out along with Ollie...So, now the fighter has it's fighter ace pilot.
I'm not much of a figure painter, but I can embellish on a figure. I've just added some details to the coat to make it look like a roughed up leather coat and I may change the pant color and the collar.
Anyway, this is what I have so far..

The next is an out-of-box build of the Revell X-Wing Fighter.
This still has the factory markings and I just added a subtractive wash to the hull to weather out the model.

I know I've teased and mentioned this before, but the mandate from Upper Management is that I have to start getting rid of some of these models and Hasbro Toys. For those of you on Facebook, I urge you to like my page...Samurai Geek Designs.
My career among other things had come to a screeching halt, and I had to reach rock bottom before I found out that all I ever had to do was reach out to friends and family to help ease the burden.
Long story short, with the encouragement of family and friends...also some expensive therapy. I have started my own business that involves everything that I can do graphically and artistically.
I have a agreed to work on a graphic novel that was presented to me by a well known writer in the business, and I have extended my work as a graphic designer to the world market via our page on Facebook and etsy.
I've found out that I have suffered from a fear of the possibility of my own success while occupied with the possibility of my failures. So, I am going to try this.
I know that the economy is still in a shaky state at the moment..and regardless of our separate politics, that's the universal truth today. But simply trying to scrounge as much work as I can in meaningless positions for other people who will not remember my work when it comes to pay day has not been working for me.
anyway...i ranted a little more than I probably should have, but check out Samurai Geek Designs if you would.

You guys have fun out there with your fantastic builds.

That is one of the best custom paint jobs I've seen on an X-Wing, what method have you used, and what paint colour?

Also with regard to your life situation, following your dream is always worth a really good shot... Usually lots of good things come your way when you follow that path and I wish you every success moving forward.

Hey Jules..that's the one model I didn't even have to paint. Straight out of the box, I didn't even putty the seams on it. The only thing I added to it was a simple raw umber wash with some charcoal to weather it out. I also tinted the inside of the cockpit glass to cover the bad interior.
I did however move a little out of my comfort zone to clear out an item that has been in my stash for over two years. I had the Han Solo AMT Vinyl kit, it's a cool sculpt but the face was way too thin and didn't really resemble Harrison Ford much and it was missing the gun. Long story short..i found a replacement gun from a Hasbro 12" figure that fit his grip in my tool shed.
A couple of the Shipyarders have already seen this on the FaceySpace, but this bucket of parts started out like this...

starting to layer the paint slowly...

About three layers into it...

This is also where I start getting a little more deliberate with adding in some of the low lights and beginning to imply shadows with a detail brush..For this, I switch from using a dry brushing technique for the highlights to a wash for the shadows and creases in his face..Also feathering out the edges of the wash with the brush to eliminate and brush strokes or excess paint.

Finally, i settled on this..

With the face nearly finished, I finally started working on the rest of the figure.

Yeah..he shot first and he'd do it again given the opportunity.

This is the final layer..just added a matte finish to the skin and a coat of future on the eye, nose and lips for that added dimension.

80% of the time painting this was spent on shaping out the face with the multiple layers of paint.

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed. Take care out there and have fun.

Great work on this I know that Solo figure is a real tough one to get looking good. Very nicely done.
