Well it's almost time to start work on the old girl properly! My paint has arrived and I've printed a two sets of 'Wookie-Decals.'

Why two sets? A lot a replacement stickers seem to come out rather dark - on this ship normally the roof portholes and the engines - I want this old girl to look her best! So I'll be printing a second, lighter set for those areas!

@Ghost yes I believe they all made similar noises - the motor span a plastic gear which rubbed against a piece of nylon to make the awful noise. Not sure if my motor even works anymore though!

@LE, Art and Drod Thanks lads - I hope I don't mess up this one!!!

@Mungo I'm going for a fresh on Christmas Day 1979 restoration here mate - just plain old fashioned Kenner at their best!

Rather nervous about this one for some reason - it must be the sentimental value of the toy and the large amounts of plastic to spray!

More soon,

Ray

Getting the paint on!

The radar dish and side panel have not been painted - they are there to show my original colour guide (as they had not yellowed.) the main body of the ship has been sprayed and the removable hatch is there to show how badly she had yellowed over the years!

More soon!

Here we are spraying the interior of the Falcon. To conserve paint I'm trying to spray ONLY those areas that will be visible come the final build. I'm leaving the sticker residue as a placement guide for my new decals.

Painting is 75% complete now! Just the underside to do...

Cockpit with new decals and canopy

Here's some of the completed parts awaiting installation after the shell is rebuilt!

To show you how close the colour match is the canopy has not be repainted (the softer plastic does not hold the paint well) however the ramp and smuggler's floor have both been repainted!

Most of my fiddly small decals have been hand cut and put in place on the ship's upper body... Just got the portholes to do and another coat of varnish...

Thanks Ghost!

I'm taking my time with this baby - just finished the top hatch. That's all the small fiddly decals completed now - just the main compartment and engines to cut and place.

I've also layered varnish over the decals to help preserve them!

Next step will be the interior...

Glad you guys are enjoying this restoration - I'm trying to take my time and not rush it - even though I'm totally excited about finishing her!

Interior stickers in place and varnished

The last of my home produced stickers are the engine decals

And finally the sprayed hull gets a coat of semi gloss varnish too

In the next 24 hours I'll start the rebuild!

WB Out!!

Ah ok who am I kidding? As soon as the varnish dried I started rebuilding her... Here's the front landing gear and motor going back in...

Battery cover and side panels...

Cockpit reinstalled and repaired cardboard insert...

View of the completed lower hull

View from below with upper hull added - now the screws go in!

Finally for now! Here's the rear compartment with the cardboard insert and upper hull back in place...

Next up? Final small parts fitting!

WB Out!!

Thanks Art and LE!

Another quick update on the Falcon!

I saved the original chess table decal as I wanted some facets of my childhood toy to remain (such as the worn cardboard insert)

Here's the completed ramp after being sprayed back in place...

And the gunners chair back in place!

And on the outside of the ship the blaster cannons and radar dish have also been remounted

Finally here is the outside of the restored cockpit back in place!

All I'm waiting on now is the remote and arm - once that's done I'll snap some pics with the ship crewed up!

Thanks for sticking with this project, I appreciate that a load of WIP pics aren't everyone's cup of tea!
