Dark Wolf's Vehicles
« on: October 27, 2011, 06:57:00 PM »
Hey, guys...this is Darth Optimus.  This thread belongs to my son.  He scratch-builds ships using card stock, "For Sale" signs, cardboard and tape.  He is currently fascinated by Uglies and is always trying to figure out what ships could be kit-bashed into something awesome.  Some of these pics were posted in my vehicles thread, but he wanted them reposted under his own username.

First up is a Cloakshape Fighter, from the Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels:

This is awesome! May I ask, how old is your son? My son Jaxon is 8 and has been talking about me making a thread for him. You must be proud of him as he is scratch building things! No matter the materials that is what it is. Very nice work and I can't wait to see more when he has time. Welcome to the yards Dark Wolf!

Great start!  If you are into card-modeling, I would like to suggest a couple of suppliers of scenery and ships:

Finger & Toe Models, on RPGNow at http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=797

and WorldWorks Games at http://www.worldworksgames.com/store/index.php - (I have several of the "Ebbles" models from "back when" and they are good stuff)

Most of their models are geared toward 1"/28mm wargame miniatures, but FTM has produced one set sized *specifically* for action figures (at my begging) and has others that can be used with figs.  The great thing about these models is that they are always sitting there on your computer once you buy them and you can print and build as many as you like.

Now that's what I like to see. Man, I hadn't even considered scratchbuilding stuff when I was that age. These models that you are making are fairly complex and well thought out.

something you should get him into is paper-craft models.  Google "paper craft sci-fi models" and you'll come up with some great little printable models that you cut out and put together.  Once you get good at puting the paper models together it'll help with your visualization of scratch built models.  check em out.
