MAXX-Replicas : RED2: X_WING FIGHTER - a Hasbro toy mod...
« on: January 31, 2012, 05:29:33 AM »
Hi Volks,

here are some pics of my latest Hasbro mod - the "RED2: X-WING FIGHTER"
What I have done:

 - new painjob / weathering
 - more cockpit details incl. fiberoptic ilumination
 - engine lights added
 - added a power switch for the light into the cockpit (right side panel)
 - added 3 "real" rear windows

Here's also the link to the YouTube HD video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=V14NHpJyO-c

You can find many more pic on my website:    maxx-replicas.jimdo.com

I hope you like the mod.... ;)

This is amazing! You should do some tutorials on lighting and weathering vehicles!

"The Empire has a legion of loyal soldiers that are in endless supply."
"Only Imperial stormtroopers are so precise."
"For the Empire!"

My word! that is just superb! It can easily be mistaken for a studio model or replica it is absolutely spot on accurate. Please can we see more of the cockpit detailing? and a close up on some of the weathering, in fact more images of all of it! I am so intrigued on how you have managed to pull this one off.

Here you can find a lot more pic's of this X-Wing : http://www.pixum.de/viewalbum/id/6089831

Sorry, but for this model I haven't done a tutorial yet  :-\  But here you can find two other tutorials I've made (in German language only):

The BMF repaint and electronic mod:  http://maxx-replicas.jimdo.com/making-of/hasbro-falcon/
The Hasbro Imperial Shuttle Studio-Scale mod: http://maxx-replicas.jimdo.com/making-of/hasbro-tydirium/

And here are some more detail-pic's of the X-wing (use your right mouse-button for fullscreen/highres pics  ;))

That is a thing of beauty! I love the rear window modifications, why Hasbro didn't make the vehicle in that way is beyond me.

An absolutely perfect job!

Excuse my ignorance but what tool did you use to cut out the windows so cleanly?

thats an amazing piece of work right there!

Hangarbay:  If it were me doing it, I'd use a heated up exacto knife.  If you warm your blade in a flame it will cut right through plastic... and I recently stumbled upon an exacto knife blade attachment for soldering irons!!  So, a "hot knife" as it is called will be my new tool for vehicle customs!  (it's the technique I used on my action fleet customs to get a smooth cut).

Hey man - no problem  ;)

There is a really easy way to cut perspex. The perspex i've used for the windows was only 1mm.

This works really great - i allways do that way.

You can also use a "normal" cutter, you dont need this special perspex-cutter. I hope this video helps

I am in awe of this. Jules I can see why you like it. I had to get this video on the front page. Perhaps someone already added it and if so it won't hurt it being up there again!

This is one amazing piece to say the least, everything is perfect from the customizing to the paint apps 10/10.
