Yes, the glasses will most definitely be for sale soon!  I'm working on making production molds for them so that I can make consistent sets of glasses to offer as well as trying to work out what colors I can offer. (hint - translucent red FAILED)

The head is from Sigel Dare, available in a comic-two-pack with Darth Krayt, iirc.

Today's update... Jealous of all things Tatooine I've been seeing in recent diorama posts, I played in the styrofoam aisle of Hobby Lobby this evening.  A few pieces came home with me.  A few more will come home later this week.  Boryla Sector WILL have its own Mos Eisley/Battlefront-style building soon!!  SOON!!!

YakFace - keep an eye on my parts-bin thread.  Once the glasses are ready, they'll show up there.

Here's a look at the roof of the first bldg I'll be working on.

It will be a quintessential "Battlefront II Mos Eisley" bldg, having features common to that map, rather than devotedly following a specific bldg.  The roof tile here is a 12" piece and the dome is a hollow 8" foam dome.  The completed bldg will have a staircase on one side, doors on two sides, the tall window openings, and an awning on one side.

Naturally, I've had ideas for several other bldgs.  Their mockups:

The first bldg may actually end up appearing in a couple of different, very similar, styles, depending on how I build the walls.  My intentions is to eventually come back and build interiors for all of them, too.

So, once upon a time, it seemed everyone went on a "let's build a cantina!" holiday.  No problems, while I enjoyed seeing ppl build them - and LEARNED from those builds - I wasn't really interested in building a screen-accurate cantina.  Then came the whole "Hoth Cruise Weekend" that was so admirably done by ppl like Spooky and r1bb1t.  Awesome work and very educational as well as being fun to watch.  But no pressure... I mean, snow is cool and all, but I had no need to model Blizzard Force's assault. (altho Rhen Var is a definite possibility...)

But then you people had to go and do Tatooine.

You just HAD to go there.

So in a jealousy-inspired series of retail-therapy outbursts, I used several 40%-off coupons at Hobby Lobby and acquired a substantial quantity of styrofoam shapes and other necessary bits & pieces.

Because y'all just HAD to go there.  And I love me some Battlefront II in downtown Mos Eisley.  Thus begins the saga of "Iconic Battlefront II Mos Eisley Building #1."  I'll be modeling a single-story semi-square domed building.  Given the pieces I bought, I have two options:

I'm partial to the second option in order to add a staircase to the right side.  The *easiest* is the taller style - just slap the walls together in a box-shape and then cap it off with the roof-tile and dome.  If I do this, I plan to add some sort of edge-trim to the roof.  The squat bldg style is going to need either longer side-walls or a trimmed-down roof tile.  For the first build, I'm leaning toward the taller style just for speed & simplicity's sake.  An interior would be awesome, but if I do one, I'll be coming back to do it, not doing it right now.  The squat bldg is going to be a tap-caf (coffee-shop) and may feature outdoor tables as well as interior seating.  And, just to be different, I'm thinking I'll go with a terra-cotta colored stucco finish rather than the typical Mos Eisley light-tan look.  But painting the foam with wood-glue to seal it and then hosing it down with a stone-texture paint has appeal, because it would be fast.  And that is important.

BECAUSE I AM TEH JEALOUS ONE!!!  So I must haz my Tatooine bldg, my precious... and must haz it soonly...

...what would be in the dome?

And we're off!!  Herein lies the really cool series of photos taken by Outland Station photographers as the first building takes shape.

First up, the building materials take over the kitchen...

The first actual building step was gluing the dome onto the roof-tile.  I managed to set it into place less than 1/16" off-center without measuring!

With the roof set aside to dry, I moved on to assembling the walls.  I'm sure there's an architectural term for the overlap-joint I am using.  If I were an architect, I'd know what it is.  Here's the first two walls being pinned and glued together.  I used these little wooden ridged pegs from the unfinished-wood aisle.  I got them lined up where I wanted them on a flat side near the edge and shoved them into the foam.  Then I lined up the second wall so that the thin edge was over the pegs and shoved down.  Separate, apply glue, realign, shove, set aside.

So I did that twice, making two sets of paired walls.  Then, I set pegs into one pair where the second pair would be joining.

Glue and shove together!!

Now I have a big foam box...

It looks fairly similar to the mockup I made and posted last night.  That's good - it means my abilities to conceive and achieve are at least following the same course.  There might be an interior later...

Since my goal is to paint it, I needed to seal the surface of the foam.  Sprywalker has suggested Elmer's Wood Glue and I applied it liberally and smeared it about with a 3" brush.

Not too sure I know what I'm doing yet... walls aren't lined up well, gaps are quite evident at the joins, and it just looks kinda...thin.

So - I'm out of glue and the first wall is now coated and drying.  I'll get more glue this evening when we go to town.  In the meantime, I have resin to cast and, apparently, frisbee to play?

Two more bottles of Elmer's Wood Glue.  Modified cantina-table-top mold to eliminate air-traps (I hope!!). Now I need to play some Battlefront II for reinspiration...

I'm thinking I'm going to hit the seams with spackle to smooth out the transitions and then paint it.  And I doubt I have enough glue.  But I'll be near a Lowe's tomorrow morning.  I'll hit them up...

Coming along great Doc and as Isaid before I'll be keeping my on this thread with baited breath. Also to seal the foam from getting destroyed have you thought of using plaster with a mix of woodglue I find it works wonders when I do my dio's.

Great start Doc! You can also mix in plaster of paris in the glue. As Ron said that helps and thickens it up a bit.
