And we're off!! Herein lies the really cool series of photos taken by Outland Station photographers as the first building takes shape.
First up, the building materials take over the kitchen...
The first actual building step was gluing the dome onto the roof-tile. I managed to set it into place less than 1/16" off-center without measuring!
With the roof set aside to dry, I moved on to assembling the walls. I'm sure there's an architectural term for the overlap-joint I am using. If I were an architect, I'd know what it is. Here's the first two walls being pinned and glued together. I used these little wooden ridged pegs from the unfinished-wood aisle. I got them lined up where I wanted them on a flat side near the edge and shoved them into the foam. Then I lined up the second wall so that the thin edge was over the pegs and shoved down. Separate, apply glue, realign, shove, set aside.
So I did that twice, making two sets of paired walls. Then, I set pegs into one pair where the second pair would be joining.
Glue and shove together!!
Now I have a big foam box...
It looks fairly similar to the mockup I made and posted last night. That's good - it means my abilities to conceive and achieve are at least following the same course. There might be an interior later...
Since my goal is to paint it, I needed to seal the surface of the foam. Sprywalker has suggested Elmer's Wood Glue and I applied it liberally and smeared it about with a 3" brush.
Not too sure I know what I'm doing yet... walls aren't lined up well, gaps are quite evident at the joins, and it just looks kinda...thin.
So - I'm out of glue and the first wall is now coated and drying. I'll get more glue this evening when we go to town. In the meantime, I have resin to cast and, apparently, frisbee to play?
