So building 1 is an experiment using DAP spackling paste to cover styrofoam walls.  Thanks to several of you, I'm experimenting with plaster of paris on building 2.  To wit:

"I don't always defend Command Post 2, but when I do, I prefer the high ground."  Yes, I am using the "stacked cubes" of the building at Command Post 2 on the Mos Eisley field of Battlefront II as the inspiration for this one.  I mixed up plaster of paris normally, added a dollop of white glue and a couple of drops of a Plaid brand craft paint called "Pueblo," and applied it with a spoon first then smoothed it with a wet 3" wide paint brush to get the troweling marks.  It's going so fast, I've forgotten to add doors and windows!!

Better pics when I finish it up.

Today's progress - finished the other two walls with more DAP spackling paste - NOT the lightweight kind and I promise you there is a HUUUUGE difference!  Obviously, there's a difference in weight, but the finish is also different.  I think the lightweight product gives a more realistic stucco look...but maybe it was just my own fault that the finish looks different.

The walls are 10"x12" styro, 1.5" thick. The roof is a 12x12" tile with an 8" dome - assembled & awaiting coating. There's no door yet - I got in a hurry to slap spackling and totally forgot I needed to do the door first! I'm contemplating making the door out of shapes cut from 1mm or 2mm "foamies" sheet and fastened to matboard or soemthing. I'm also contemplating a full-up interior for it - a two-level coffee-shop/quick-snacks shop, but that might not happen for a while yet...

A shot from a bit further back with the roof set in place...

Thanks, Ron!  I'm really liking how the finish is looking, also.  I'm going to spray it with a gloss sealer to try and lock down the spackle putty as much as possible.  Then, paint!

Aw - thanks!!  I have to say I do like how it is progressing.  I'm *planning* to start working on a door for it today, as well as sealing the walls and hopefully coating the roof/dome.

Doc I'm really loving the texture of the walls and this is going to look amazing once painted and weathered.

I've not yet decided on adding the padding to this door or not - I may save that for another door, as I have 5 buildings in the works - either under actual construction or design/part-accumulation.  I'm drawing a lot of my inspiration from the Battlefront game, and their doors are about 50/50 as far as with or without padding goes.  And, if I do, it will likely be more "inspired by" rather than "screen-accurate."  I'm thinking these are going to find a home in my Fixer-verse.

(Interestingly, I may have found a part that will serve well as a Command Post marker I can recast for my dream of a game-map-accurate Mos Eisley...)

One thing I can say so far is using a clear sealant on the "Red Tower" surfaces has worked out well.  It's a matte sealer I got at Hobby Lobby and it seems to be making the spackling compound much more abrasion-resistant.

I do have a plaster & glue bldg - 2 stacked cubes, a la CP2 - that is underway.  I got carried away and forgot to carve out windows or doorways on it, tho ... oops!

Another experiment coming soon(-ish) is mixing paint into the spackling compound, to better hide any chipping.
