My second post - Project Endor
« on: June 06, 2009, 07:02:14 PM »

Hi Folks,

Now that some of you have seen my Death Star Hangar bay, it is time to unveil the party piece.
This is my Endor Project, consisting of a large Imperial Platform made from bits of building materials I had lying around, and some customs of an old Hoth playset and ATAT, a refurbished Chicken Walker and an old Mini Rig.
Please enjoy my images….

I am speechless. Don't know what to say.  I really don't. I am not sure I have seen anything of this genre that can compare to it. Love the lights for a night scene. That platform was enough, but all of the other extras with the rebels and all the intricate platform work. I am just at a loss. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

Yep, that is the one that I was waiting for you to show us. Man, what a beutiful thing this is! I also love the lighting. I didn't know that was there. Those are some excellent pics, also! Man, I would love to have one of these. How long do you think it took you to build that platform?

I really like that re-do of the little rebel trench with turret that you added in. That was a cool idea.

Tamer, I knew you were going to like this one.

Very cool indeed!  I wish I had that kind of talent.  Give us a lesson on the lighting, would really like to know how you pull that off!

Yepper this one is out of sight. I hope he will share some of his insight on how he built this thing. Simply awesome.

Thank you so much Gents, having the opportunity to show off the platform again has been great fun and I'm glad to see that you like what I have built.

The funny thing is that when I was building it I often stood back and chuccled to myself and thought "WoW this thing is awesome". I'd never attempted anything like it before, I'd built an airfix kit a year ago (after a break from kit building of about 20 years) and more recently had built stuff out of Foamcore and Card, but nothing like this. I'm still stunned at how cool it came out.

The lighting was a detail that had to be done, again I'd never worked with electrics, but a kind dude at Maplins helped me out. I told him what I wanted to achieve and he told me how to do it. What you can't see is the sound unit thats made from a doorbell that can play MP3's. It's bloody loud and I've rigged it to play 4 different sound clips from the movies.

The good thing about the platform is that it's basically a table, and I've made it so that it folds in half and the legs just slot into place. The whole thing takes up barely any room when apart. The battery packs are located in the legs and there is a switch on each foot. Each leg has 4 red LED's located each side of the outward facing ramps. The table section has 8 LED's on each half of the table, 4 on the landing pad and 4 at the top of each leg support facing downwards. When lit the whole thing gives off a blueish purple ora that is totally awesome. There is a positive and negative jack plug on each leg  that you need to connect on assembly. The wiring is fairly inobtrusive and can only be seen inside the leg sections when the thing is taken apart.

I also fitted 2 orange LED's into the tower of the old Hoth Playset, which I designed to be a nightlight for my youngest kid.

Ok, enough with the boring stuff. If you want to see some WIP images, here is a slideshow showing most of the photos I tookthroughout the build.

Very impressive, indeed, Julian. Thanks for that link. Man, your pics and photo editing skills are great! and let's not forget about your fabrication. Those build up shots were enlightening, to be sure. Lit up, this thing does cast an erie glow, doesn't it?
I like the sound of those mp3 emitters, also.
