Yepper this one is out of sight. I hope he will share some of his insight on how he built this thing. Simply awesome.
Thank you so much Gents, having the opportunity to show off the platform again has been great fun and I'm glad to see that you like what I have built.
The funny thing is that when I was building it I often stood back and chuccled to myself and thought "WoW this thing is awesome". I'd never attempted anything like it before, I'd built an airfix kit a year ago (after a break from kit building of about 20 years) and more recently had built stuff out of Foamcore and Card, but nothing like this. I'm still stunned at how cool it came out.
The lighting was a detail that had to be done, again I'd never worked with electrics, but a kind dude at Maplins helped me out. I told him what I wanted to achieve and he told me how to do it. What you can't see is the sound unit thats made from a doorbell that can play MP3's. It's bloody loud and I've rigged it to play 4 different sound clips from the movies.
The good thing about the platform is that it's basically a table, and I've made it so that it folds in half and the legs just slot into place. The whole thing takes up barely any room when apart. The battery packs are located in the legs and there is a switch on each foot. Each leg has 4 red LED's located each side of the outward facing ramps. The table section has 8 LED's on each half of the table, 4 on the landing pad and 4 at the top of each leg support facing downwards. When lit the whole thing gives off a blueish purple ora that is totally awesome. There is a positive and negative jack plug on each leg that you need to connect on assembly. The wiring is fairly inobtrusive and can only be seen inside the leg sections when the thing is taken apart.
I also fitted 2 orange LED's into the tower of the old Hoth Playset, which I designed to be a nightlight for my youngest kid.
Ok, enough with the boring stuff. If you want to see some WIP images, here is a slideshow showing most of the photos I tookthroughout the build.
