Redarmy's Workbench. Slave 1 and a German tank currently!

Good evening Gents!
I’m newcomer to the forum but have been doing models for the past year or so.  I’m used to working on World War 2 era armor, but decieded to spring for Finemolds’ Slave 1.  

Here are some of my previous projects:




And tonight’s progress:


 Needless to say, I’m pumped to build it.  Not much progress was made tonight as I decide what I want to do with it.  I’m painting it for a contest in September and want to push my painting and modeling skills to their limits.

I’d like to make the model look dynamic and would possibly like to use LED’s.  Ultimately, I’d like to ditch the static base and create the effect that the ship is actually banking around an asteroid of some sort.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Jake, welcome to ISY. Wow you have some serious customizing skill I can see by some of those already completed models. I can't wait to see what you do with that Slave I. Look for this news to be featured on our front page very soon.

Thanks guys!

It'll be my first time using LED's and such with models so I'm a little hesitant. I'm considering doing something very similar to this build:
http://www.therpf.com/f11/crackers-1-144-finemolds-millennium-falcon-asteroid-field-diorama-3d-137585/index2.html , by using rods to hold the ship up while it's banking.  I'm considering using hollow brass rod to hold the ship up and to run the wires through, but I'm not sure how I'd secure the rods in the ship to keep it well-anchored.  Any thoughts would be awesome!!

Tried out the hollow support stand tonight; now I just have to figure out more stuff for the electrical components.  LED's and fiber optics are on their way :)



Now I just need to tackle the ugly seam down the middle...

It looks like your display stand worked out well. Another thing I like is seeing clear plastic rods used this way too.

Love to see attention to detail like removing that middle seam.

Good evening guys,

It’s been a busy week, but here’s an update on another project as I wait for some stuff for Slave 1 to come in.  I did a bet of a mess-up on Slave 1 argh....



The chips and weathering will be subdued with the pigments and others that I add to the tank.  It's going to look well-used and poorly maintained in a '46-'47 environment if the Germans had held out a bit longer.

As always, any C&C is appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback :).  I had one guy tell me that:

"I'm sorry: hairspray-technique is overdone. Turret is almost acceptable, but hull has way too big chips for the scale. I'd personally paint it over or lose the skirt. But it is Your model and anything that makes You happy..."

Grrr... it's not even done yet.  Oh well, motivation to push it harder!

looks good to me.. plus what does that guy know? He probably doesn't even own a tank of his own! I know the closest thing I have to a tank (my lawn mower) has some pretty large bare spots of paint.. = )

You know what. Thats a pretty good point. My lawn mower has some similar weathering. Frankly I think the weathering looks good on this tank myself.

Hi. What did you use for the dirt/dust in between the foot stones on your warlord base? It almost looks like super-fine pieces of dried leaves!
