Art by the Sith's Herald
« on: March 26, 2014, 07:26:07 PM »
Hi everyone.  I've been posting custom figures in that thread for a few months now.

I've been an artist since I could hold a pencil.  I enjoy all mediums from pencil sketches to 3d CAD and everything in between.

I am a member of the Star Wars Artists Guild (SWAG), and have a gallery there.  I'll have to apologize in advance for not having the patience to post all of my art individually here, but I do want to share the link to my gallery.

If you're not familiar with SWAG, take some time to roam the site.  There have been some amazing artists there over the years.

Gallery Link -  http://www.swagonline.net/user/1555/gallery?items_per_page=40

As a teaser, I do want to post an image of the ship from where I took my screen name The Sith's Herald.  Enjoy!!

Hello, just wanted to say that I think you have achieved the look of "classic " concept sketch art typical of Johnston and others of the era. So well done.

Thanks so much!! I switch up what I'm working on from time to time, but I always enjoy the vehicles.

Most of what I post here is already on the SWAG gallery, but I'll keep adding a few of my favorites as I have time.

This is the pirate ship Min's Wind .  Trou to the used universe nature of Star Wars, I tried to make it look like it hadbeen cobbled together and seen plenty of action.

When this image was first posted, and I gave a little of the back story, I received several requests to illustrate the different ships that had been used to construct the Min's Wind.  These are what I came up with.

I was also very honored when another SWAG artist, who goes by the screen name Rebelmoon, shared with me his 3D rendering of the ship.  I felt he really captures the essense of the Wind.

Hi all,

Here's a few more of my favorites.  These are two version os what I called the O-Wing fighter.  The first is early version created by the Aquavian species.  The second is an updated modern version by the same species.

O-Wing Fighter Mark II

O-Wing Fighter Mark VII

You are a fantastic technical artist!
Have you had any formal training?
I have altered the action figure. Pray I don't alter it further.

Thank you!

I'm an engineer, with many years of CAD, but I learned on a board, so I suppose that transfers over.

I can see your CAD experience in your pieces.

This is probably a question you get a lot, but have you used Sketchup at all? If so, how does it compare in terms of ease of use and potential for use?

I've never used Sketchup.  I don't know much about it.  I'll have to check it out.

I use Photoshop for enhancements on drawings, and as far as CAD I have used AutoCAD, Inventor, Solidworks, CADKey, and Visio.

Have you ever considered modeling things for video games/ have you had any modeling work in the TV and film industry?

I went so far as to send a portfolio off to a certain film company in northern CA when they had an opening for a concept designer.  I guess I don't have enough formal art training to really get a look, but I love drawing and drafting so it's probably a logical pairing to go into some kind of CG modelling.  It's hard to think about that magnitude of career change when you're at a good job and almost 40.

Northern CA, eh? There are only a few film companies I can think of that are located up there, and if we're thinking of the same one, you are my new favorite person on this Site.
