JDeck's machines, models, monsters and miscellaneous.
« on: October 28, 2014, 07:59:43 PM »
This is a moisture vaporator I built using spare parts and styrene sprues. I'm  playing with some parts to make a binary droid to maintain the vaporator. I'm just wondering if it could pass, I know its not movie accurate but I was going for some kind of variant. Let me know your thoughts.

I found some moisture vaporator blueprints online all the parts are there. The intake, coolant nipple control panel Colling rods and so on. Just looks different. On a different note I think a real moisture vaporator could work its like a combination dehumidifier and moonshine still. Pretty cool star wars tech.

The control box I made from .003 styrene the cooling rods from model sprues but the rest are all various parts. The intake is from an AMT speeder bike. The base is a foot powder top.

I couldn't sleep last night so I had the idea to make a Worrt the toad that sits outside of Jabba's Palace. He was always one of my favorite creatures from star wars. I built most of his front side still need to work on the back. Once he's cured I'll use my woodglue technique to add the texture and skin. I think he looks pretty neat but I haven't gotten much sleep either. I need to a just a few things here and there now that I look at it.

I'm anxious to put his skin on after work today.
I might use silicon gel for some of his spikes in addition to the woodglue warts.

I was really disappointed that they didn't make a 3.75 scale worrt toad so I made one. They made every other creature under the suns except him.

This is how I'm making my skin I'm using woodglue to first blend my seams and add the first layer of warts. Now I have to let it dry before adding my second layer.

My second layer
I added a little silicon gel to make some of the spikes then covered them with the woodglue. Then let it dry. You repeat the process until you've reach the look you want.

I'm using an oil based paint mainly because the finish is dull and organic. You can also add texture with oil paint unlike acryics. Also since oil paint it takes so long to dry its very forgiving and it blends well. I'm using mostly browns with an off white belly. It takes a whole lot longer for oil paint to dry but for me its worth it.
