Looks great. I am gonna like this one too. Off to share.
Lol. Thanks Tamer! Im liking him too. Its hard to tell from the movie or pictures whether his dome is painted or tinted. It seems to be tinted, you can see lights inside him. Not sure.  I'll figure it out tonight.

Re: JDeck's scratch built machines and monsters. 6" LIN droid
« Reply #61 on: August 06, 2015, 04:42:22 PM »
I'd say he is finished. I changed some things to make him more accurate. I watched that particular scene several times today, and no arm. It must be a Hasbro invention. I just assumed it had an arm, but it makes him more interesting. I have a couple more droids in mind, like the KPR droid and Treadwell, just need to figure out the details.

Thank you Stan. The 6" IG-88 looks cool but you can't bend his elbows and he kept falling down. I wanted him in my Jabba dio, but I would have to prop him up like weekend at Bernie's or something. I figured I'd do like they did in star wars and use IG's parts to make other things. I may use his leg for the Treadwell.

Thanks Tamer!! I think he'll make a fine addition to my 6" droid collection. But you know how, you build something and immediately think of a better way of doing it. But I'm content with this one, the more I look at it the better I like it. As they say on to the next one.

Thanks Larifari!! Glad to hear! I enjoy building them. These kitbash droids are real fun. The original designs were so simple for episode IV it makes replicating them simple too.

Re: JDeck's scratch built machines and monsters. Asteroid experiment. PT.1
« Reply #70 on: August 10, 2015, 08:16:45 PM »
The last couple of days I've been experimenting with making an asteroid for my TIE fighter model. There are several variations of asteroids but I think I'll go with the style ILM used (brown, rough and grainy). I'm using scrap Bluefoam glued together. I ran a scewer through it to make it easier to work with and paint. I carved it into a rough shape and coated it with spackel. Tomorrow I'll add another coat and sand it down. I think it'll work. If not I have plenty of scrap Bluefoam to try again.
Fun Fact: ILM used a shoe and a potato in one of the asteroid shots in TESB. So there's no wrong way to do it.

We shall see. Lol. I have to keep in mind the scale too when I detail and paint it. Its about the size of the TIE Fighter 1/72 so relatively small. Just need one more coat of Spackle. Actually I may coat it in thinned plaster to seal it. I'll experiment. I think it would be cool to make a display piece with a TIE Fighter weaving around asteroids.

Great work on the asteroid. Looking forward to that scene, sounds like right outta TESB to me!

Thanks Tamer. I'm going for a TESB look. It would be great if Bandai made the Falcon. One day they will, for sure., but this TIE will do fine. Here is a couple of reference pics asteroids used in TESB. Now the question of the day is what scale are these props. I guess a rock is a rock.  I know the bigger they are the more smoother, rounder and more craters they will have
