MPC A-wing: lighting.

I started working on an MPC 1/48 A-wing model kit. Pretty simple kit, other than the inverted panel lines its really nice, especially for a 33 year old kit. So far all I've done was wire up the lights for the engines and cockpit. I'm using a warm/white chip LED for the cockpit, and two warm/white 3mm LEDs for the engines. Not too many modifications to mount them, mostly drilling holes, and cutting a couple things. This is just a mock-up, I still need to modify some things, take it apart again to paint. At first I didn't like the smoked glass, because its not accurate, but it filters the light perfectly. I still have a lot to do, but Its starting to look pretty rad.

Nice. Those lights really add a great style to this. Any pics of what you are using to do it or a pic of your light work inside the guts of this when you tear it back apart to paint?

Off to share.

This is going to look awesome once it's painted.

Thanks bud, yeah, I hope the paint job turns out good enough. Those raised panel lines are a mind boggling.

Many thanks again. I'm afraid there's not much to show. I'm putting the 9v power source in the display base, so I don't have to preform surgery on the model just to change the battery.

I kitbashed a pilot today. The body is 1/48 modern U.S pilot, head is ww2 Russian pilot. It looks better than what came with the kit. I wanted it to be similar to the pilot in the original ILM model.

Thanks for showing me. I really would love to read a few tutorials, if you ever get the time, for how to wire up and do all that light stuff. I think it really adds to any project. Off to share.

Yeah that would be cool. I can put something in the reference section. I have a basic knowledge of electricity, I've recently graduated from caveman status. I can give a circuit diagram, with light battery switch. Its all really simple, I'll be getting into fiber optics soon, and that is super simple. As I learn more I can add more. Of course others can share their knowledge as well.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I know a lot of other folks would love to see this too.

One of my goals this year is to do a podcast on lighting as a basic how too, where to get supplies, etc.

I did some basic paintwork today. I need to clean up the paint lines, always use 3M masking tape. I used Dollar store brand, I was in a bind. I was way behind. I was willing to make a deal. But I can fix it, a black wash will help too. Once I paint the interior it won't be so bright. Looks like my figure is in a tanning bed. It'll look cool once its detailed and weathered.

Thanks Tamer and Starchaser! I'll be making that LED tutorial soon. I just need to cut all the wiring down, the problem is I want to use those parts in my next project. Meybe I'll use the next project as a tutorial.
