JDeck's dioramas and displays.
« on: October 29, 2014, 06:45:00 AM »
This is a ww2 inspired version of the battle of Endor. The walker is an AMT AT-ST with some ww2 parts and decals. The bunker is modeled after a German blockhouse type bunker. The figures are star wars miniatures that I customized with 1/48 parts. The ground work is mainly sculpting plaster. The Forrest litter I made myself by just grinding up pine needles and leaves. The trees are woodland scenic 7" conifer. The bushes came from a company that takes real plants and preserves them in something but they look really cool. Also the little ferns I made from reptile moss.

If you like this diorama go to starwars/ww2 mash/ups in the custom vehicle section.

Excellent work, you made the walker and troops fit right into the WW2 theme.

I really enjoyed building that bunker. I used bluefoam and drywall spackel. Then I took my knife and chipped little bullet holes and different layers I had made with the spackel. I even added some exposed rebar in the larger holes. I used woodland scenic concrete paint and weathered it with oil paint.
I wasn't able to get a good shot of the figures so Ill take them off and show you. Like I said I used the star wars minifigures which comes out to 1/48 and sliced their helmets and guns replaced them with German equipment.
The walker comes out to 1/48-1/50 but I found if I scaled up the weapons to 1/35 they look a lot better. The veiwports were from a 1/35 kfz.222 German armored car and they fit almost perfectly. The main cannon was from a 37mm AT gun and I used part of the shield around the barrel to make it look like it belonged there. If I didn't the hole was way too big for the barrel.it was overall a fun project.

So I started the ground work  my sandy diorama. I decided to put my sandtrooper diorama project in this section because it makes sense. I appreciate all your kind words but I deleted my custom figure feed to make things easier.

This is sort of a test run to see how it will look. I still need to add some bushes and make some deviations in the sand color but that's about it.  I've sort of fallen out of love with it over time. You know how things look cool in your mind's eye but in reality it doesn't turn out quite right.  I've been working 60hr weeks since I started and I wanted to do things different. So I'll get it out the way and do better on the next dio.

While I'm waiting for paint to dry I would like to tell you about an upcoming project. My Imperial Marine Heavy Blaster squad. I feel that every Imperial Marine platoon ought to have at least one heavy blaster squad. I would like to depict them attacking a group of resistance fighters on either Corellia or the Naboo courtyard.

I like the idea of a Heavy Blaster squad and look forward to seeing more.

I'm so used to working in 1:35-1:48 scale I'm finding my layouts to be complex and busy for 1:18 plus they're huge in comparison. But if I can do the blaster squad layout right it'll come out cool. I really think it would be cool to have a war ravaged version of the Naboo courtyard.

Been piddling round with my civil war ravaged Naboo courtyard. Built the street section the tile streets reminded me of cobblestone which gave me some inspiration. Took some bluefoam and covered it in Spackle added the grenade holes, tile lines, and painted it. I'll build the wall soon enough.

Been working on my Imperial era war ravaged Naboo courtyard wall. Inspired by southern French architecture I made it the same way as my street Bluefoam and Spackle. I still need to wait for my Ocher watercolor paint to come in but I painted it a concrete color as a primer undercoat. I'm also putting on some burnt vines and all that and some rebellion graffiti.
