Looking impressive JD.

Ron
Thanks Ron. Yeah I have to take a lot liberties to put Jabba's entire palace into a 23"×11" shelf. I would have loved to do a whole dio, but I don't have the space.

This is looking really good ! Cant wait to see more updates and finished pictures !

Thanks Mr Jedi! I find the more work I do, the more I realize I still need to do. It might be a while before it's finished.
Thats quite ok my friend you cant rush perfection lol !

What a great idea! You divided the space of your shelf for the diorama very well! This is coming along great!

Thank you Fala! I don't know about a masterpiece. Lol. But it should be pretty neat. Still much more work to do.

Thank you legion! I had to take artistic liberties. Max and the band go on the opposite side facing Jabba, but that would be impossible. The final stages will be real slow going.

I have just a very minor update, more of a gameplan. I'd like to show folks how easy it is to do this. Easy but time consuming.. I started working on the flooring. I made the floor grate, it's not screen accurate, but it's more of the Kenner style. I just cut .03 styrene to shape drilled holes and used a small file to shape the holes.
Also I put the first coat of lightweight spackle on the floor. The reason I do this is; 1) it fills gaps, seams and smooths out inconsistencies. 2) it creates a stone, concrete or stucco texture. 3) I like to use Woodland Scenics earth color watercolors and they work perfectly with plaster or plaster like products.
I will probably apply 3-4 coats, sanding between coats. I've done this several times before, and I find the more coats the better. As you can see on the Star Wars WW2 bunker I made on the very 1st post on pg.1.  It's just time consuming, but I have plenty of time. I have to do the same with the wall sections, then fill the seams after the wall sections are assembled. So it's a process.

Thank you Tamer! Right now it looks like a really sad birthday cake, but it's supposed to at this point. Meybe I made it too thick, but any mistake at this point can easily be rectified. Just thin coats until you can't see blue anymore.

Its alright though its just the first coat. See the spackle doesn't like to stick and spread on the bare foamboard well, so you have to really glob it on. Once its sanded the other coats can be applied thinner. I sanded and applied second coat yesterday, and looks more like a concrete floor than a really sad looking cake.

Thanks Tamer. I think I'll give it one more sanding, and that's it, a fourth coat isn't necessary. I will probably start on the wall sections today as well. Same exact process.

Yesterday I started spackling the main archway wall section.  It was actually dry enough to sand today.
Also last night I colored the floor sections. I originally was going to wait and do everything at once, but I want the floor to be a different shade than the walls. First coat was Woodland Scenics concrete earth color watercolor. Second WS concrete and WS Raw Umber mix. Third coat WS concrete and WS burnt umber mix. This is why I'm taking the extra time to spackle everything. The seams are blended and it takes the watercolors perfectly.
Next I'll continue working on the wall sections. I do them in sections because its easier to handle in the application and sanding process.
BTW. there is a product similar to spackle made by Woodland Scenics called Foam Smooth-It. It costs twice as much but it's purpose made for foam. I haven't tried it yet, so I can't vouch for it, but it's another option.

Thank you Tamer! Yeah it's coming along. I should have the major construction finished by this time next week, weather permitting. Still have a lot of work to do.
