Wow Devin just read this. I was glad to hear the disk news and then saw the last part. I hope things work out for you.

I have been there myself.  If you want to talk pm me, we can arrange a phone call.  It was a pretty awful time for me when I went through it.

Segnett has also suffered through it, although in his case, the phy rehab actually did him in, :(

He's a trooper though, always soldiering on.

well things are looking on the up and up....

no realy change in my back problems...

I finally got every bit of my junk moved to my parents and all my animals set up in my room there (narceron can contest to the task I had there!)...

I just made around 140 bucks on e-bay this last month so that was an added bonus, gives me a little bit of cash to work with in the next couple months.
unfourtunately for me I've gotten used to Dawn carrying me through about everything financially.  I only make around 70-80 bucks every 2 weeks working at the school.  I've asked for more hours but with my back the way it is I don't know if I'll be able to work more...

anyways.. yeah... that's whats going on

Not a bad ebay haul, devin. Crank it up buddy, it helps.
I'll bet moving those animals was a chore.

Well, if you end up taking a year off school, which I understand would suck, at least you have a kick ass talent to get you through the winter months and as a bonus, can bring in some cash.

I hear you on the woman and finances, my wife calls me a "kept man" :)

Then again, we are both home right now, :(

I might wind up having to take at least a semester off school.. this hydrogeology class is kickin my fanny.   I took a quiz on friday which consisted of only one set of parameters but 5 equations we had to solve with them... basically all kinds of crap dealing with the soil moisture content of a soil sample yadda yadda... believe me it's not that interesting... anyway the professor gave us 15minutes to solve all of them!  with me having missed alot of class I had studdied all the lecture slides he'd sent me, done all assigned homework, read over other students notes who'd been there the whole time... and I'd not seen the equations or anything remotely similar to what was on the quiz.  I handed it in blank.  He began going over it and i was so frustrated and agrivated I litterally felt sick.  Several of the other students said they were disapointed and were unable to even finish one to two parts of the quiz.  One student admitted to "studying the wrong material" thinking that he would have quized us over something else which he spent more time on in class.

Basically halfway through his explanation of the answer I walked out.  I was afraid I'd say something I regretted if I didn't just leave.  I took the rest of the day off and went home.

I'm realy not looking forward to going in to class tomorrow...  we have a midterm in this same class this week...

problem is if I don't pass this one class I will not graduate.  I'm not the only one in this boat either.  Most of the people in this class are needing it to graduate.  They only offer this class in the fall and if I fail I will have to wait two more semesters to take it again.

I'm thinking about saying to hell with it, focusing on my other two classes and then coming back in the next fall term and taking only this single class....

idk what I'll do....

buddy, that class sounds like a toughie. I probably don't have the attention span anymore to even be able to take a class like that and not find myself doodling heavy metal characters or Road Warrior looking stuff all over my notes.

Good luck, whatever your decision.

I challenge you to find the ground water infiltration rates for a watershed when given the amount of precipitation, evapotranspiration, runnoff, and size of the watershed....

because I'm having a hard time with it.  lol.

I'm hoping that I can at least pass the class and I won't have to worry about it.  Given the fact that EVERYONE in the class is doing horrible, and it's not just me because I've missed classes, I hope that the professor will at least curve everyones grade at the end of it all...

if nothing else our department head has background in geosciences and hopefully will give us a hand...

the professor of this class has never tought before and I think he just is trying to go too far in fear of giving us too easy of a class... after all it is a "500 level" course....

I'm afraid I would have asked him out loud at the start of the quiz - "I don;t recall seeing any of this in the materials you provided me nor in any of the notes from other students.  Did you, in fact, actually cover this material while I was out?"

Wow, I never though this could happen in advanced classes.

Hope your back's getting better, though.
I had this kind of problem some years ago and everything the doc did wouldn't work.
In some sort of last effort he told me to see a physiotherapist, but kind of told me he didn't think it was worth trying.
Well, by recommendation of a workmate, I saw what I believe to be the best therapist in the world and she worked her magic on me.
No drugs, just some therapy, a regular workout and now it's better than ever before.

Good luck, Devin!

I took a class dealing with ground water run off, actually.  It was in the safety department, I remember the . . . .who am I kidding, I did horrible in Dr. Begley's classes, lol.

He's in the dolly parton building if you get desperate, I"m sorry, the martha lane collins center, lol.

I'd drop the class or switch to audit, probably, unless you want to try and sneak a D and just graduate, :)  D is for degree.

The best part about a prof like that, they usually get hit by the chair around week 13 and end up curving their finals, not always, but many times.

I've begun shopping around for a good PhD program, but so far, they are all looking to be around 60k, which I do not want to spend at this juncture, lol.

well he went over a review for the midterm today.  He aslo said that if everyone does bad he'll "consider" curving...  he also hinted at if he teaches this again he'll make it easier... that's such a big help for us... ::)

well my back was doing better untill I tripped up a small step today on campus... now i'm back to hurting.  I'm going to call the doctor and probably scedule surgery.... I just didn't want to have to do that.

Well, man, you can't be too careful for your back.  The cord is the center of you entire nervous system and can cause all sorts of ill.

And for the record, I hate all steps, all of them, :)
