Just one more episode of REBELS...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, February 28 2018
I just got caught up on the latest episodes of Star Wars REBELS. Wow is an understatement. They are sure going out with a bang. If you haven't had a chance to view them yet, you are sure missing some of the best of the series.
The final episode premiers Monday, March 5th at 8:30 PM Eastern. We would definitely be remiss not give David Filoni a big ole shout out for another great series!
2,097 backers for the Barge as of today!

I am also left with the idea this morning that wouldn't this sure give Hasbro a green light to do all those obscure Sail Barge and Skiff (heck maybe even new skiffs) and Jabba's Palace creatures and party goers we have never seen before! All in super arty vintage glory!

The next step would be paint these sections before gluing together, then working on the roof.

Well we are over 2,000 backers with 35 days to go to get the other 2,955. I am still amazed at how polarizing this vehicle is as far as reception on the world wide web, social channels, etc. As for me, I just think it would be one of the coolest collectibles ever made, not to mention the largest and the detail looks amazing to me.

Oh yes, this is looking great. I will be watching this video very soon. I love Aliens vs. Predator.
Dan shares his Marauder Gun Runner's Prototype...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, February 26 2018
"Lets set the "Way Back Machine" to over a decade ago:
A little company called "Marauder Gun-Runners" had just gotten started with an assortment of 1/18 scale action figure accessories. I befriended the owner and reviewed his very first offerings on several websites. In his next series of weapons, he creates the "Sci-Fi Blaster" based on some ideas I suggested for future items.
During the manufacturing process, 2 prototypes were made, 1 for review/approval and 1 to use in creating the production tooling (this prototype unfortunately gets destroyed during the process).
Shortly before the series became available to the public, I received a parcel in the mail containing a baggie with a dozen production Blasters, the handwritten note seen below and the surviving prototype!"
Now thats one cool story!

"Hi All,
New WW2 dio and this is a 1:72 scale Tiger 1 early production kit from Zvezda and is a snap kit and built straight from the box with the only alteration to be done was to drill a hole in the muzzle as it different have one.
Recipe
Tank & Figures - as mentioned is from Zvezda and it was painted and weathered using Vallejo paints and Pastel chalks, the two figures are from Dragon Models and were painted with Vallejo Paints.
Base - is an old 1:6 action figure base and I used Tamiya's Diorama Texture Paint (Dark Soil) and covered the base with it. while drying I added the tank and applied the Textured Paint to the tank on the skirts, tracks etc.
The tall grass tuft are from Army Painter and the tree's and bushes are from Woodland Scenics and is their Fine Leaf Olive Green Foliage and I just snapped off pieces I wanted and glued in place.

The figure is from Dragon Models and was painted with Vallejo, AK interactive paints and weathered with pastel chalks.
The base is made from foam board for the lower section of the base then I used blue foam to scratch build the floor and column. The debri is a mix of sand a ripped up blue foam and once it dried the base was painted and weathered with Vallejo Paints.

Darth Sinister shares a neat paint tip...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, February 22 2018
"If you wear contact lenses you probably have an over abundance of these things lying around. When I'm painting a fig a lot of the time I mix colors to make a custom color. When everything is done I sometimes have to do a "last look" and always there are some touch ups needed."
It sounds like the paint lasts for a good while when stored this way too!
Dan reviews the new Animal Planet Styracasaurus Set...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, February 22 2018
"Toys R Us Exclusive "Animal Planet" Dinosaur Encounter Styracasaurus Set Review:
Every few years, Toys R Us refreshes their "Animal Planet" offerings. This new set replaces an earlier set consisting of a different, smaller tower and an Allosaurus. This set contains a brand new (to the US anyway) dinosaur, a new dinosaur hatchling, and a spectacular new (as far as I am aware of anyway) tower playset. The figure, helicopter and remaining accessories are all recycled from previous offerings."
This is the least, but certainly not the least of Dan's new Animal Planet Reviews. Good stuff folks.

"Toys R Us Exclusive "Animal Planet" Deep Sea Encounter Goblin Shark Set Review:
As per usual, Toys R Us refreshes their various "Animal Planet" offerings every 2 years or so. This third version of this particular set replaces the miniature Humpback Whale (which itself replaced the previous Giant Squid) with a Goblin Shark (a rarely seen monstrous looking deep sea shark making its debut in this line) and recolors the formerly white armored dive suit red. The included figure and accessories are all recycled from previous versions of this set. As all of the accessories, figure and the vehicle have been covered in my previous reviews, I will focus this review of the Goblin Shark itself."

"Toys R Us Exclusive "Animal Planet" Deep Sea Encounter Dunkleosteus Set Review:
As per usual, Toys R Us refreshes their various "Animal Planet" offerings every 2 years or so. This third version of this particular set replaces the Liopleurodon (which itself replaced the previous giant Barracuda) with a Dunkleosteus (a prehistoric armored fish making its debut in this line) and recolors the formerly red sea sled yellow. The included figure, net and accessories are all recycled from previous versions of this set (the figure is in new colors at least). As all of the accessories, figure and the vehicle have been covered in my previous reviews, I will focus this review of the Dunkleosteus itself."

Ron Hembling shares some Sandtrooper Dios...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, February 21 2018
"Hi All,
I have started making vignette's to sell at my local Con in June and here are the first lot.
Recipe
Sandtroopers - are from Bandai and builyt straight out if the box and I also added stocking to the joints to keep them hidden. The troopers were panted and weathered using Vallejo Paints and Pastel Chalks.
Base - the plain sand base was done using Tamiya's Diorama texture paint Light Sand once applied and dried I then gave it a was of light brown paint and then dry brushed it with Vallejo's Iraqui Sand.
The other two rocky base's I use the Tamiya Light Sand textured paint and while drying I added kitty litter to them. Once dry I gave the base's a wash of light brown and then dry brushed them with Vallejo's Iraqui Sand and then used a mix of red brown and dark brown pastel chalks to weather the bases.
Ron"

Star Alien 70 customizes up a full 27 points of arty K-2SO...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, February 20 2018
"I don’t normally do customs of newer figures that are still ongoing, just in case Hasbro actually produce what I’m working on, but I’d been looking at the basic single carded K-2SO and thought it looked like a figure that could potentially have decent articulation without too much work… and then I got carried away. It went from being a case of just adding elbow and knee joints to this…
Super articulated 1:18 scale K-2SO: Features articulated elbows, wrists, knees, ankles, feet, toes, torso, and completely new ball-hinged shoulder and hip joints. Plus the existing neck and head rotation of the original figure. I think it’s 27 POA."
Holy cow! 27 points! No kidding folks.
More work from Panther on his Aliens vs. Predator Outpost...

"This afternoon I put a couple of hours aside to go back and work on the floor. I carved in to floor 6 grill plates and then using the top of a bread knife ans pressed it into the foam board to make the slates in the grill plates. This took the complete couple of hours, hoping it has created the desired effect or I will have to create the grills from scatch."
I think it looks pretty realistic.

More on Darth Sinister's latest customs update...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, February 19 2018
"So here we are and I'm starting with not one, but two of my favorite MARVEL characters. The FIRST EU characters to be seen were some of my favorites... SPACE PIRATES!!!! Namely Captain Crimson Jack and his first mate Jolli. They were awesome! A bit under-dressed for space travel but awesome just the same. Crimson Jack got his nickname from the color of his mane. His pirate vessel was a Victory Class I Imperial Star Destroyer he and his crew found adrift. He raised his First Mate Jolli from a child and aside from his gruff demeanor saw the girl as a daughter. Captain Jack and his crew were known for raiding unsuspecting freighters via space jump, attaching themselves to the hulls and blasting thought to get what they wanted.
We also get that Han Solo and Jack are acquainted and have been for some time. I would have loved to have seen that or even a Jack cameo in the new Solo movie. These guys might fit into that film pretty nicely...

Ron Hembling gets back to SW Dios!
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, February 19 2018
"Hi All,
I know a SW dio finally LOL.
Finished this last night and is Ver 2 as I did a similar dio a while back and used a Matchbox Falcon but wanted to do this dio using the Bandai 1/350 Falcon.
Recipe
Falcon - as mentioned is from Bandai and was painted wanted weathered using Vallejo Paints and Pastel Chalks.
Base - is foam board cut to the desired shape then I used Alluminum Foil to build up the base and alos used it to make the shape of the asteriods.
I then used a 50/50 mix of spakfilla/sand and covered the foil with it and once dry I then sprayed them with Tamiya Brown and then Tamiya Medium Grey. I then gave them a wash with Matt black and then once dry I dry brushed them using Vallejo Light Grey.
Ron"

Panther starts work on an AvP Diorama...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, February 19 2018
"While exhibiting at Bradford Unleashed, I carried on working in my AvP diorama. I cut out the base of the outpost, marked out a walkway around the front and right side.
Next I given the idea of sliding doors, I cut out a piece of foam boards and carved markings into the door. Using 5 mm foam board to add details to the reverse of the door.
With the doors made, it’s time to work on the inside wall. After cutting out the doorway, I’ve etched wall markings into the wall, adding a wall bracing. With these done, I can start adding extra accessories to the front wall before working on the side wall."
Looks like he had a very fun day!

Finished this small 1:35 vignette of last night. The figure and dog are both from Dragon and they were painted with Vallejo Paints.
The base is blue foam and the sand is from Tamiya and is the light sand mix with crushed up kitty litter applied while it was drying .
Once dry it was then painted with Vallejo Iraqui sand and then given a wash of medium brown then dry brushed with Iraqui sand and the grass tufts are from Army Painter.
I also decided to give Tamiya's decals ago and used them on the epelets and sleeves and they worked great so I think I'll be using them alot more.

-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, February 18 2018
"I've had a little time lately and have been hard at work on the beginnings of my classic MARVEL STAR WARS stint. These figures are 1/12th scale and a passion project for me. Now it would be fun to translate the characters as they were, straight from the pages of the old comics, but I always like to put my own spin on things. Giving these characters a much needed re-boot is essential. I want to achieve a look for them that makes sense in relation to the films and breath new life into them."
His re-imaginings of some of our favorite characters are astonishing. Trust me there is a lot more than just Crimson Jack to see in his thread.

Figures and equipment are from Zvezda and are built straight out of the box and painted and weathered using Vallejo Paints, Army Painter paints and pastel chalks.
The base is foam board with a coat of PVA glue on top so it won't warp once the ground work mix from Tamiya is applied. The tufts of grass are from Army Painter.

Dan "The Spectre" Kosa is back with a new Rampage Review...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, February 15 2018
"Rampage: The Movie" Mega-George Review:
The largest and most expensive piece in the Walmart exclusive "Rampage: The Movie" line by Lanard is the Mega-George set. This giant-sized version of the simian hero of the film retails for $19.82 and comes packed in an open front cardboard tray.
George sports 11 points of articulation consisting of a ball hinge head that allows George to have his head properly oriented when in upright or walking on his knuckles poses while also allowing for a decent range of movement, ball hinge shoulders and elbows, swivel wrists and hips and ball jointed feet to ensure stability while posing. The paint apps are very well done but beware that due to the open packaging the paint can be marred easily (especially the teeth, lips, nose and eyebrow ridges) from shelf ware or people playing with the toy in the store. Luckily I had a few to choose from and found one with a great paint job on both George and the included Dwayne Johnson figure. The figure is mostly hollow plastic, but still manages to feel pretty sturdy despite its surprisingly low weight."
Trust me that is just the start of the great review.

A new Thunderbirds Dio for Ron Hembling!
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, February 14 2018
"Hi All,
New little Thunderbirds dio with TB4.
Recipe
TB4 - is from IMAI and is an older kit and needed a lot of sanding and I had to fill in the left side as it was a hole where the turning mechanisiam was to wind the motor.
The cockpit was cut out and I scratch built a new one adding the door, computers at the back and also adding a steering wheel and chair using plastic card. TB4 was painted using Vallejo Paints and pastel chalks.
Gordon was made using 1:72 scale Preiser German figure which was sanded down, I used plastic card for the air tanks and face mask and thin wire for the hoses.
Base - is high density foam as are the columns, walls and floor and I used a sharp pencil to do the floor and walls. The sand is watered down spakfilla and and painted Vallejo's Iraqui Sand and the sea weed is vines which have been cut to different sizes and glued in place and they are from MiniNatur.

"A couple of years ago, my sister bought an Isabet Reau figure off of ebay. The figure came without the helmet or any other accessories. I finally got around to making her a custom helmet. I started with a helmet from Young Boba Fett (Kamino Escape). The helmet was too small for Reau's head, so I cut the back apart and added some green stuff to make it the right size. I then primed it with grey spray paint, and painted the details with acrylic enamel.
I'm not quite done with it yet; I hope to add another coat of the yellow and possibly clear coat it, but I like how it looks right now."
Looks like some awesome modding to me!
OC47150 shows us new customs...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, February 13 2018
"For my club's dio contest, I created the Jedha marketplace dio. Needed some of Saw Gerrera's partisans, so I created some.
Used the EVO stormie helmet on a repainted Bane Malar figure. I dyed a Naboo pilot's coat wine-colored. The third partisan is a combo of the ROTLA Cairo swordsman and thug.
The blue partisan is a Tatooine Luke with a TFA Unkar's thug's head. He's wearing a blue-dyed tusken raider robe."

"As promised, here's a few of my creations.
First up is Obi-Wan Kenobi. I found an old vintage Ben Kenobi figure in the loose bin at the local comic shop and repainted it in the POTF2 colors. The cape is brown felt. I had fun fixing him up.
Next up is a Mando. I was inspired either by a cosplayer at Celebration or just surfing on the net. Thought the brown and tan color combo was different. The rifle is from the POTF2 AT-ST driver, and the cape is from an older GI Joe. Don't remember where I picked up the head."
I really like that Mando!

Ron Hembling shares a new WW2 Dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, February 11 2018
"Hi All,
Here's another small 1:35 scale WW2 German vignette/dio that I completed last night.
The figures and raft are from Dragon Models and were built straight out of the box and painted and weathered using Vallejo Paints and Pastel chalks.
The base is a piece of foam cure and a removed some foam so that the raft would sit more naturally in the water. The embankment is foam board built up and and glued and then I used Tamiya's Soil Effects Brown to cover it.
Once dry I then gave the ground work a few washes of Vallejo Light Brown, the small tufts of grass are from Army Painter and the bushes are from Woodland Scenics and the clumps of darker foliage are from MiniNatur.
The water was done by using watered down spakfilla and covering the water area and then once dry painting it Vallejo's Dark Green and once that is dry a mix of Vallejo's Medium Green and Woodland Scenics Realistic Water mixed together and applied that to the base.
Ron"

The pauldron and the ammunition pockets are now painted in matt black. The buttons on the ammunition pockets are now brass-coloured.
The sensor units on the helmet were painted in a darker green.
E-11D
The buttstock was upgraded with wire. The blaster was painted with matt black and weathered with silver pigments. The muzzle was painted with silver and red and blue oil colours to get the "heat" effect. Red markings were also added.
SE-14r
The blaster pistol is a modified variant from a TIE fighter pilot. I added a string to the belt so the pistol can be added to the figure.

Ron Hembling is back with a new Thunderbirds dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Friday, February 9 2018
"Hi All,
New Thunderbirds dio 1:144 scale.
Recipe
Recovery Vehicles - are the old IMAI kits and this one had the wheels underneath with the magnets could be shot out of the barrels. I didn't add all the springs etc and covered up the holes with plastic card and also alot of sanding was done to them as the moulds don't like up correctly.
I also added the antenna's, doors on the side and the bar at the front using plastic card and the connecting bracket between the magnets barrels I used a thinker piece of plastic strip.
The kits didn't come with decals so I used decals I had in my spare decals box and the RECOVERY VEHICLE signs on the side I did by printing them on the printer and then applying them to the vehicles. The vehicles were painted and weathered using Vallejo Paints and pastel chalks.
Base - is a piece of high density foam cut to the desired shape and then a 50/50 mix of spakfilla/sand was applied to the base and once dry is was painted and weathered with Vallejo Paints and pastel chalks.
Ron"

"*tap tap* - this thing on? I don't make it over here much anymore.
Thanks for the awesome comments. About a year after my father passed, my mother died! Aside from the mental taxation, carrying out her estate and selling her house really kept me tied up. So it really has been long stretches of time where I just couldn't find time to get back to plastic making.
I bought a new 3-D printer -a Robo R1+ - and it's soooo much better than the Printrbot I had. I finished up Hoth 3.0 (though I still know I'll take another crack at Hoth sometime down the road). I spent a few months trying to "catch up" and print for myself some pieces I had designed (Blockade Runner hall, Jabba droid torture rack)..."

Whills Scholar shows you how to custom vintage style cardbacks!
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, February 6 2018
"I'm the one who created the 1:18 scale U-wing build-it-yourself kit last year. My latest project:
I created a vintage style cardback kit. It includes pre-made layer stacks that work on Paint-NET (a free image editor for Windows). Basically, all you need to do is add a photo or artwork, turn on or off layer categories for figure frame and nameplate sizes, bar frame effects, etc., and you can generate a vintage-style cardback design more easily and faster. The result will be a cardback in 6" x 9" size, 300 dpi. I even include instructions for how to glue your printed cardback design onto card stock."
Wow, you can bring the vintage line back whenever you want now! What a great resource and thank you Whills Scholar for sharing it!

"Hi All,
Completed another small WW2 German diorama.
The bike, pig and figure on the are from Zvezda and the other three figures are from ICM and have been painted and weathered using Vallejo Paints and Pastel chalks.
The base is an old 1:35 scale base and the cobblestone road and footpath are an old vac form kit I have for years. I appiled it to the base and once dry I cut the excess area's off, the street light is from Miniart and the broken bulb is a HO scale bulb that didn't work anymore.
The debri/dirt on the ground was a mix of spakfilla/dirt and small pieces of kitty litter and the base was painted and weathered using Vallejo Paints and pastel chalks.

"My Orc Chieftain needed a dark mount!
Toy Biz "Lord Of The Rings" Fell Beast. Eventually the reigns will be shortened to better fit the smaller rider (original Ringwraith figure was 6")."
Looks like perfect scale to me.

"As almost always pictures say more than words. Kotobukiya added some nice detail to this figurine. The details look nice, but when you look close enough you'll notice that you would be able to add the details even better than they did. Obviously the details are printed on there not painted. That wouldn't be possible for a collectible that is produced in such quantities."
Trust me this is just a small sampling of a full detailed review with images.

"Burnt Umber was used to first weather door and door frame, then around all stone work, walls and floor. Dark grey was dry brushed over the door to pick out the features in the wood. Another coat of black was applied to the barrel. When this is dry I’ll start weathering it and building the surrounding rubbish to go in this scene.
A coat of black acrylic around the border and behind the back wall was added."
It was nice before, but his extra attention during the painting process is really pushing this into over the top territory.

"....Yikes... Time flew
I've been really close to finishing phase one of all the designs I want to put out as toy/models. But... Something felt missing. I developed some floor panel stuff (pics of that soon), and then it hit me... "HOUSES" and sure enough it was possible. I have 5x 96% finished so last night just caved and primed 2 of them.
I hope you enjoy. I tried to have fun making a little scene."
It sure looks fun to me!

"With the constitution work done, it’s time to start painting this diorama. Mixing up a medium grey to cover all walls and floor. While it’s still wet, I added white to top of the side wall and the pelmet running the length of the back wall. I then dry brushed white over both sides of the small wall and the imperfections on walls and slabs. The door and doorframe I’ve given a base coat of white, when it’s dry I’ll weather the door to match the scene.
Leaving this to dry before working on the back wall and man hole cover."
Now that is really turning out great!
Ron Hembling back with some water effects...

"Hi All,
A mate from my model group built a F4 Phantom 1/48 scale kit and wanted a base done for it and gave me a reference photo as per the first pic as he is entering it in a model comp this weekend. He asked could I make a diorama base for him and I jumped at the chance as I love doing water.
The base is high density foam cut to size and then I used watered down spakfilla and covered the base. While the spakfilla is drying I then used a mdeium wide brush and lightly wet it and gave the spakfilla a flicking motion with the brush to make the waves.
Once the spakfilla is dry I then painted the water using Vallejo's light green and once that was dry I gave it several washes of Vallejo's Dark blue until I was happy with the way it looked.
Once the washes were dry I then dry brushed the waves using Vallejo's Flat white and once dry I added three layers of Woodland Scenics Realistic water.
The two rows of water were done by using a cut up coat hanger to get the angle and then I used cotton wool to make the streams of waves/water."
Sweet model and base!
